I don't really understand why James wants to have a snowball fight. Even worse, I don't understand why he wants to invite the girls along. Just for fun, maybe a few laughs? His logic baffles me.
I realize that Lindsey's tagging along, and I don't mind. When she sees me, her face brightens just a little bit. I don't feel so alone in the group anymore, not now that she's here. God, she lights up the room, with her smile and the way her hair falls over her shoulder and why am I thinking like that?
It doesn't take long after we walk onto the grounds for Sirius to chuck a snowball at Remus, who tosses one, which hits Alice, and then Alice throws one at Lily, and we're all laughing and ducking and scooping up snow. I hear Lindsey's laugh from behind me as some snow hits the back of my neck and I turn and somehow I've got her pinned to the ground. She's still giggling. I hear James cat call. I give him a hand gesture not for use around people like old ladies. Or nuns.
"Lindsey," I say. "That snow was very cold, you know." She grins. "And your point is?"
"You should apologize, or I'll get you back."
"How will you do that?" She asks, and I can see apprehension starting to come through in her eyes.
"Like this." And I lean down and kiss her. And she's kissing me back, and I can hear all Remus laughing at us, but I don't really care, because I'm kissing Lindsey Reynolds and she's kissing me back. And suddenly, I don't mind James and his snowball fight anymore.
