Margaery Tyrell has spent her life around roses. Not too surprising, since she is she is one of the "Growing strong" golden rose Tyrells. There are roses all over Highgarden. All over her parents, her grandmother, her cousins, her clothes, all over House Tyrell. And she's surrounded by them- and more than once she's wondered if she'll ever truly leave roses- which have been with her all of her life. She's spent more time with roses than some people she's known.
Roses are safe, roses are comfort, roses are familiar- she is a rose, part of the large, extensive Tyrell rose garden. A prized rose of Highgarden, she's heard them/people call her.
Roses are never too far away. Even Loras is a rose.
So when the pretty Sansa Stark approaches her one day with one hand behind her back, she knows the probability of what she's hiding being a weapon is low.
Sansa is not a rose.
She is a wolf.
Not just any wolf, a legendary, almost unreal- direwolf. A direwolf that is meant for Winter- Winter is coming. She does not look/appear to be a wolf when Margaery first meets her. But then, she's never seen her in Stark clothing. Just in pretty caged bird clothes. But Sansa Stark is no caged bird. And there is no such thing as a caged is impossible to trap such a legendary thing/beast.
And Margaery knows that she is a mighty, wonderful direwolf that could easily instill fear. But she is a gentle direwolf when Margaery sees her. She has never heard of such a thing either, all Starks she's ever heard of were fierce. And then she thinks Sansa is fierce. Just a direwolf in the South for now.
Just as Margaery wonders if Sansa is beginning to feel the temperature change quite yet, Sansa shyly hands her a rose. And Margaery doesn't understand the blood to her cheeks that she can feel and knows Sansa can see. And the odd, but warm feeling in her stomach that she knows is not harmful.
And as their hands touch for Margaery to accept it- she wonders if Southern Highgarden roses and great Winterfell direwolves - could ever live (together) in the same climate.
