Hermione sat quietly next to her best friend in the Room of Requirement as he furiously researched defensive spells to help prepare him for the upcoming Task. The discovery of the Room was all Dobby, when they had asked for a place where they could hide and study away from the other students, he had brought them to the tapestry of Barnabas the Barmy attempting to teach trolls ballet. It was a godsend as no one really bothered them as long as they were in the Gryffindor Dorm by curfew. Really, they only slept and bathed in the Dorm and only on weeknights.
She knew that the piece of information that she was about to share with him would not go over well.
"Harry?"
"Mhm."
"I was looking over the rules of the Tournament…"
At the words 'Tournament', his emerald gaze slid onto her, abandoning the heavy book in front of him.
"And?" He prompted her.
"And…Dumbledore could have gotten you out of it." The silence was thick and heavy as she could feel the air begin to fill with magic and anger. "It's more of a loophole, really. If you aren't of age yet, your parent or guardian has to agree to your participation and even though it's a magically binding contract, you could have been released from it due to you being a minor up for twelve hours after the drawing." Hermione watched as her brother in all but blood fitted the remaining pieces of the puzzle together.
"Dumbledore's my guardian, isn't he?" He seemed to fold in on himself until he was curled up in the armchair with a lost, glazed look in his emerald eyes. "Why…?Does he want me to die?"
"I don't know Harry, I honestly don't know." Never before had she felt so helpless.
