This is after Lee fights Gaara and before the operation. It may contain a few spoilers, but nothing really important.
Promises

They are fighting again. Gai's idea, of course, but this time Kakashi didn't even bother to complain. It was weird, out of place, to do such a silly thing whit those psychos somewhere near the village, the kid Gai loved so much in the hospital, Kakashi himself barely recovering from the Sharingan´s attack. It didn't sound like Gai to waste time with theirs infamous so-called rivalry – and that's why Kakashi agreed. Because there were so many other things they should be doing now…
Until now Gai seemed normal – his kind of normal, of course, the pose, the drama, the big white shining smile, everything like everyday. And then, in a casual break in the fight, he mentioned the advice he gave the kid and the deal they had made.
Now Kakashi is standing there, hands in his pockets, looking at Gai with his most apathetic face:
"You and your promises" he says calmly.
He asks himself is Gai can see he's gritting his teeth.
And he decides that, if everything ends up alright... if nothing happens... if Tsunade really proves herself to be everything people say she is, if nobody dies, if Gai doesn't have to keep his last stupid promise, if this don't become the farewell he think it already is, then he'll never ever again play paper-rocks-and-scissors.
And he resumes the fight, because that's what Gai expects and is the only thing he can do now.
