Dr. Temperance Brennan watched her partner sigh heavily while he waited for the hotel receptionist to get off the phone.
About ten minutes earlier Booth had steered her to a couch in the lobby, sat her down, tossed all the clothes they had just bought next to her and stormed off to yell at the receptionist. While they were shopping, he had received a call from the hotel saying that one of their two rooms had been double booked and could they please share one room and vacate the other? Brennan watched in amusement as Booth's face turned purple when the receptionist continued to ignore him even as she got off the phone. Brennan decided she should intervene before Booth committed another murder right in the hotel.
Heaving herself up with all the bags gathered in her arms, she made her way over to Booth as quickly as possible.
"Booth."
He continued to glare daggers at the receptionist.
"Hey! Booth!" Brennan shoved her side against him.
"Oof! Bones – what? I'm trying to fix this!" Booth said while simultaneously taking the bags from her hands.
"Look Booth, we have the one room right? You don't have to be uncomfortable about sharing a bed with me," Brennan said frankly.
Booth's jaw dropped as a light blush crept onto his cheeks. Brennan looked back at him innocently, causing him to shake his head and chuckle.
"Okay Bones, one room it is." Booth grinned cheekily as he guided her over to the elevator.
Hours later Booth lay wide awake, every fiber of his being focused on his gorgeous partner lying quietly beside him.
"Booth?" Her voice was a whisper.
"Mmhmm," he replied, turning on his side to face her. As he caught a glimpse of her face in the moonlight he failed to hold back a gasp. Her eyes were impossibly blue even in the dim room. Her auburn hair fell over her shoulders, perfectly tousled.
"Eh hem." Booth came back to reality when the object of his admiration cleared her throat pointedly. "Well?"
"Well what?"
"You've been dazed for about five minutes now, you going to let me in on the fun?"
"You were the one who was going to ask me a question."
They spoke in hushed, intimate voices, their faces only inches apart.
"Well?" Booth grinned slightly, repeating her earlier statement.
There was a sudden change in her expression that caused Booth to reach out and gently touch his fingertips to her cheek. Her skin was burning.
"Why are you blushing?" He asked in amusement.
"You'll be okay tomorrow?" She looked directly into his eyes. Booth saw fear in her blue orbs and immediately reached for her.
Brennan gladly accepted his embrace, burrowing her face in his neck. She felt a slight vibration as he chuckled.
"You got me into the fight in the first place and now you don't want me to do it?" She could feel his warm breath against her hair.
"Well sometimes I don't think before I speak," Brennan's voice was muffled against Booth's chest.
Booth laughed and tightened his grip around her, burying one hand in her soft curls. "I'll be fine. Don't worry about me, I have my lucky charm." He punctuated his words with a quick squeeze.
"Yeah, that's going to stop me from worrying." Booth could feel the roll of her eyes in her voice, but she sighed and closed her eyes, drawing comfort from his embrace.
Soon, both had drifted off to sleep, soothed by each others' presence.
