Sakura walked to Konoha High. It was early in the morning and she was very tired.
"Hey Sakura-chan!" Naruto called out to her from across the street.
"Ohayoo!" she replied.
"Do you want to walk to school together?" he asked happily. Sakura sighed.
"You aren't exactly giving me a choice, are you Baka?" she teased. He thought over it for a second, then blushed sheepishly.
"I guess," he replied.
They walked along happily to school. And no, this is not a NaruSaku fic.
Naruto was like a brother to her, he was her closest friend. They had known each other since a young age, and since they were both labeled as 'weird', 'different' and 'strange'. For different reasons that they held private, they were outcasts. They never actually told each other their past, but they both knew well enough not to ask.
But today was the first day of high school, a small chance to start afresh.
Plus Sasuke-kun will be there.
Shut up Inner.
Aww, you just don't want him to reject you again. How many times would that be, 17?
I SAID SHUT UP!
Hihi, someones nervous!
Naruto stared at her, but didn't ask why she was acting so strange. That was one of the things she liked about him, he knew when to ask and when to keep your mouth shut.
Well, at least about some things.
Romance was one of his worst subjects. He had a tendency to but in whenever she was daydreaming and always managed to say the last thing she wanted to hear.
Flashback
Sakura sat next to Naruto, across the room from Sasuke. But that didn't stop her from staring at him, lost in a daydream.
"-ura! Sssakura!" she jumped at the sound of her name.
"Answer the question please Haruno," the teacher snarled.
"Umm... Umm..." was all Sakura could say, for she hadn't heard the question.
The class laughed, as the teacher glared at her.
"Haruno, thatss a behavior warning," Sakura was shocked. Only Orichimaru would give a warning at that. Well, some of the other teachers might do it but only to her.
AFTER CLASS
"Hay Saku-chan, what was that about? You've been spacing out a lot lately.
End Flashback
They had arrived at the school.
"This is going to be soooo cool!" Naruto squealed, grabbing her hand and running into the building dragging her along.
"Let go Naru-san!" Sakura broke free of his grip and brushed herself off. After all, she had to look presentable. You know, first impressions and all that crud.
She held her chin high, to a deep breath and walked through the open door Naruto was holding for her.
It was a new day, a small chance to start afresh.
