Josh hears it over and over in his head. "We need oxygen! It won't work without oxygen!" The Virgil isn't going anywhere with the giant crystal blocking the path, and to remove the crystal, they need oxygen to make the torch work. Options speed through his mind, none of which sound appealing. One stands out, but he can't seem to force himself to do it, despite the knowledge that the fate of the world depends on his decision.
"Josh, we need oxygen!"
Suddenly, he can see Rat's face. The hacker that he had spent every free second of the past three months with. If this mission fails, no one on the planet will survive, but somehow, Josh doesn't care about the world. All he cares about is the pallid, pointy-nosed geek that constantly brags about his strong Kung Fu.
His mind made up, Josh reaches down to the tube supplying his air, and connects it to the torch.
"It's working! It's working well now!"
Vision blurring, he sways, trying not to distract the others. He can hear people calling him over the radio, but he can't seem to respond. Before he realizes what's happening, he collapses. Still he hears people shouting his name, and can feel himself carried into the ship. But all he can see is Rat.
