"Sora, don't ever change."

The rough and splintery wood of the makeshift pier felt almost smooth under Sora's hands. Maybe it was all the memories that had seeped into it - into the island. The sand was soft and fresh from all the times they had made sandcastles together, but hardened from the times Riku had kicked them over.
The trees had witnessed endless sparring matches, but also many conversations. Conversations that sparked ideas, relationships.

Yes, Sora mused, this island was special.

He had missed it - sometimes, when he felt overcome by the hoards of Heartless, he wished he could just swim through the clear waters or climb up the trees. He had felt like his fun had been taken away.
And it had been, of course. The Islands had fallen to darkness.

But the air stayed clear as ever until his return. It was no different - nothing had really changed. A few things, maybe.
Riku was quieter, only willing to spar if Sora coaxed him. He now hid behind the fringe which he used to flick out of his eyes cockily. He was still Riku, though. The same darkness lurked in him, and the same pert smirk masked it.

Kairi.. Sora leaned back on his hands, smiling lazily. Everything was right with her. Every hug was like the one they shared in the Organization's castle, every promise like the ones he had stood by all these years. He loved her, he always had. Now that he knew about light and darkness, he felt like he knew about love.

He loved Riku, too.

Sora made a face.
As a friend.

As long as Kairi and Riku were with him, he was happy. Friends were all he needed.

Sora sighed, letting his words hang in the air.
"Remember what I said to you before?"

"I'll come back to you! I promise!"
