Dear our Raggedy Spaceman with really great hair,
Planet Earth. This is where we were born. The first years of our lives nothing happened. Nothing at all. Not ever. We got up in the morning. We went to school and work. We at chips, and then we went to bed. But that was it.
And then we met a man called the Doctor. A man who could change his face. That was you. And you took us away from home in your magical blue box and showed us the whole of time and space. And then nothing was ever the same again. Everything was adventure and aliens and saving people. We thought it would never end. But then it did.
This is the story of how we died.
You helped us travel across the universe. From Earth to far away galaxies on the edge of everything. And everywhere and every when we went we saw people just like us: the shop girls, the students…the lonely and the forgotten. But if we've become the legends then that's wrong because our names aren't important. There's someone else.
That someone is you. You've saved so many lives who didn't even know you were there. And you never stop. You never stay, and you never ask to be thanked. But we see you, we know you, and we love you. And we always remember what you do even when you forget. You save worlds, rescue civilizations, defeat terrible creatures…and run a lot.
Seriously, there's an outrageous amount of running involved.
However, when you sailed off all those years ago did you ever think you would become this? The man who can turn and army around at the mention of his name. Doctor. The word for healer and wise man throughout the universe. If you carry on the way you are—alone—what might that word come to mean? You need someone, Doctor, to stop you when you go too far. And when you do go too far—because eventually you will no matter how hard you try—remember us, old friend. Even when our stories have come to the last page. Even when we're long gone. Remember that we lived wonderful lives and were very happy.
And above all else; know that we love you. Always.
We do worry about you, though. We know that once we're gone you won't come back here for a while. And you might be alone, which as we said, you should never be.
Don't be alone, Doctor.
And do one more thing for us. There's this impossible girl out there, just waiting for you and that magical box of yours to come and find her. She's going to wait a long while, so she's going to need a lot of hope. Go to her. Tell her a story. Tell her, if she's patient, the days are coming that she'll never forget.
Tell her she'll travel the stars and save whole worlds. She'll face terrible creatures, and find a better way to live her life—where she'll take a stand. She'll say no even if the odds seem too impossible to overcome.
Tell her; these are the stories of: Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Donna Noble, River Song, Rory and Amelia Pond.
And this is how they end.
