A Change of Scene
There was a knock on the door of his house.
Who would come by at this time of the evening?, Shikamaru thought. He looked at his parents who just smiled at him.
"Go get the door," Yoshino said, still smiling.
"Yeah," Shikaku said, "And make sure you enjoy yourself." He grinned which resulted in a smack on the shoulder from his wife. Shikaku just laughed.
Raising an eyebrow, Shikamaru went to the door. Opening up he saw her and his bored, tired look became a gaze full of curiosity and surprise.
"Hey Crybaby," she said, with her usual playful tone. "Let's go."
With one last glance at home, Shikamaru saw his parents waving goodbye from the table, his mother snickering. Whatever it is they're up to, I don't like it.
"Where exactly are we going?"
Temari looked at him with a very sweet, almost innocent look. "You'll see."
They past the gates and reached a small hill with a tree right at the top.
"Up there," she said as she walked up to it, like a playful child.
Who is this and where's Temari?
She sat and leaned on the tree and signalled him to follow.
"Why did you drag me here?" he asked as he sat next to her.
"You need a change of scene," she replied. "It's only ever the clouds with you. I want you to see what I love to see."
She looked up and he followed her gaze. Millions, no, billions of stars were spread all over the sky.
He had tried 'a change of scene' before. He had tried stargazing. The thing is though, is that it was never like this before. The stars never seemed to shine like this until now. It seems as though everything was...different.
Shikamaru felt a weight on his shoulders, then the scent of her hair. He smiled and leaned his head on hers.
"Your right," he began. "This is much better."
He continued to watch the stars, on top of the little one-tree hill.
"Hey Temari, why are the stars so beautiful tonight? They never seemed to be so bright until now."
he looked at her, only to find that she had fallen asleep. Shikamaru took a relaxed sigh.
He knew now why tonight was so beautiful.
