A oneshot I made a long time ago. This is to somehow make up for being unable to update 'Skeleton Life' this week! I'm so sorry! D=

Outside the small room, a storm endlessly pours down. Rin sipped the cup of hot tea and carefully placed it on the table. Lightning lit up her pale face, and then it was gone. She flicked on the light, sighing quietly. Tonight, she would be sleeping alone again.

A few tears streaked her face. Rin closed her eyes, going back to that particular memory.

So, this is it, she thought. In his hand was a blue umbrella. The dark sky rained. In front of him was herself, without an umbrella of her own. He held out the hand with the umbrella, and she shook her head, refusing. Rain drops wet her face. She had her head down, refusing to even look at him in the eye.

He slowly walked past her without looking back. Without any exchanged words. He didn't need to. Actions spoke louder than words, after all. Rin was frozen, frozen by the realization that hit her. Her head felt dizzy and in her eyes, the world was spinning as if she had spun one too many times. She took one step forward, then another, then another. She left the park, away from the place that would now carry heavy memories. It didn't matter if she would come back here. He wouldn't be here.

"Don't go!" she shrieked in her mind. Her voice felt constricted, tight, as she felt the tears coming. She coughed loudly, wishing this moment would end. "Please, don't go..."

The tears started to drip down her face, fast and hot, unlikely the cold rain drops. It was no use acting strong now, acting as if she never cried. He wouldn't be here to witness it... But she could try to let go of her future; the one that involved both of them. She wouldn't get her wish anymore, now that that scenario was long gone.

The small room felt a little bigger now. Rin felt empty inside, her mind opening up a little. For the first time in a year, she felt a small longing.

I want to stay with you...

Even if she wanted to, she wasn't allowed to wish it. Everything was gone. Her future, her lover, and the things she held dear. Happiness seemed to be out of the big picture.

Rin finished the rest of her tea and placed it in the sink. She changed to her pajamas and climbed into the too-large bed for her.

"Rin, I thought that we were supposed to be honest to each other..." he said, tears streaking his face. Rin felt horrified, seeing how much pain she caused.

"I was just pretending..." she whispered.

"About not knowing my birthday was today?" he questioned. Rin bit her lip.

It was only a small lie... she thought.

There were so many sins she had committed... They were so small, but she still counted them. They were endless, just like the tears that always appeared every day. It seemed that even holding his hand and trying to live alongside him counted. He certainly thought so. And if given the chance, would that mean that because of those memories, he would try to erase her from his mind? She didn't want that at all...

Rin stared at the ceiling. Night had fallen, and the storm had eventually subsided. She was still awake, trying to not dream again. Another night of falling asleep meant those painful memories would be back. She was to dream alone again... Oh well, she thought. I deserve it, for treating you so much with pain.

I'll atone by living in loneliness. So please...just let me stay gently in your memory. Maybe if we meet in another life, we can walk together, hand in hand. Until that happens,

"See you, Mikuo."
