A/N: Hiya, readers, this is Miss Royal Lady reporting. This fic is going to be part of a series of oneshots (Blackfeather series) about Aly's children. Here they are, according to me in order from oldest to youngest: Ulasim, Junai, Sabine, Jessalin, Evan, Tayara, Kytrana and Danaiu. Enjoy!
She sat on the broad window sill, staring into the blue, blue sky. Her eyes were unfocused, she was not truly aware of her surroundings. The slightest of breezes caressed the wispy strands of black hair that floated free of the similarly black braid.
The wind picked up speed. She hopped nimbly off the window sill and faced the breezes, leaning out the tower window, ever so slightly. She could hear the triplets Tay, Kit and Danny, pounding away in the corridor, no doubt running from the indignant lady who'd suffered at their prankster's hands. She shook her head and smiled to herself. The five year olds hadn't mastered the art of running lightly and gracefully as only a crow hybrid could.
Sabine slipped in to tap her on the shoulder.
"Juni, I need the Deviations about the explosives."
"Sure." Junai as she was officially known pulled out the ring of keys and unlocked the glass fronted book case, pulling out the slim, silvery green volume. The eleven year old bounced happily.
"Thanks so much!" Sabine bounced out of the room and almost crashed into seven year old Evan, who was carefully transporting a test tube of blue substance.
"Is that University Blue? Evan, you know you're not meant to use that stuff since you almost gave some stuffy old count a heart attack with your blue hair!" Sabine yelled after the retreating back.
Junai returned to the window, inhaling the exotically scented air: mangoes, hints of chilli and ocean water. The last rays of the setting sun warmed her face, a corona of brilliant reds and oranges which faded into peach, dusk blue and indigo tones.
She jumped onto the window sill, took a deep breath and jumped.
The air rushed past her as she enjoyed the giddying moment of adrenalin rush, the sheer joy of freefall.
Then she snapped out her wings. Black and glossy they caught the fading light of the Kyprish sun. She rose into the air and circled the wind whistled past, cooling her face and neck. For the moment, she was detached from the squabbles and dramas of her family and the stress, gossip and intrigue of the Kyprish court.
For the moment, Junai Crow was free.
