The more Jane thought about the family dinner at Maura's the more agitated she became. Tommy was flirting with her. He was flirting with the medical examiner and it was really beginning to piss Jane off. He was an ex-con! An ex-con with no job and nothing to offer the rich, beautiful, intelligent Doctor Isles. Her leg shook and she rubbed her face in an attempt to rid herself of the growing frustration she felt. Pushing herself off the couch she grabbed her keys off the table before slamming her door on the way out. This was stopping before it even got started.
Maura pulled her robe tighter around her before turning on the light to her porch in an attempt to identify the person banging on her front door. Seeing that it was Jane she opened the door and opened her mouth to ask why her friend was there so late but was never given the opportunity as the detective pushed past her and entered her kitchen.
"You are not going out with Tommy."
"I'm not."
"You're damn right you're not." Jane took Maura's words to be a question instead of a statement. She began to pace back and for the across the room.
"Jane may I please ask why you are so upset righ…" The doctor observed her best friend's movements trying to figure out what would have Jane thinking that she would ever consider going out with the younger Rizzoli.
"First of all you're too good for him. And second of all if you were ever going to even think about going out with a Rizzoli it'd be me."
"What?" She breathed out the word attempting to make sure she'd heard Jane right before she had a heart attack in the middle of her kitchen.
"I mean I'm a cop which is better than an ex-con right? And you always call me sexy or attractive. Then there's the whole touching thing we always do. The sleepovers, the bonding time, you taking my family into your guest house. I mean that's gotta count for something right?"
The ME stood still, blinking repeatedly trying to read Jane's face and see if this was a rhetorical question or one that she was meant to answer.
"Jane." Her voice made the brunette stop her nervous pacing and stare at the other woman. Making her way toward the detective she smiled, "Is this your way of trying to stake your claim on me? Because if it is I would not decline your offer."
"You wouldn't?"
"No, I would not."
"So this is your way of telling me you're attracted to me?" Jane smirked looking down at the other woman.
"Absolutely. However, I don't want you to be with me just because you don't want your brother to be."
"M, have you not heard a word I just said? I've been thinking about this for so long but I just thought you'd never want to be with some beat cop that isn't hal…" She was interrupted when a soft pair of lips covered hers. Smiling she brought her hands to rest on the medical examiner's hips pulling her so their bodies were flush against one another.
"That answered my question. In case you were wondering Tommy has not asked me out. He actually thought something was going on between the two of us."
"Maybe he's psychic?"
"Having premonitions is widely accepted in cultures throughout the world. In fact I read a fascinating article…" Taking a page from her new girlfriend's book she stopped her rant with a light kiss.
"I'm having a vision of me taking you to bed and having my way with you. Maybe being psychic runs in the family."
"Oh Jane…" Maura rolled her eyes interlacing her fingers behind the detective's neck, "Even a blind man could see that's where we're headed."
