Shion's hair whipped about his blushing cheeks as he ran, uninhibited, through the open fields. The green grass felt cool and earthy against his bare feet, encouraging faster footfalls. He paid no mind to which direction he ran, going any which way. Instead his gaze and full focus were directed toward the high flying, multi-colored object above him.

Shion laughed as the kite climbed higher in the blue summer sky. The assembly of streamers and thin, colorful paper formed the shape of a pink snake. The color matched his own snake, the one that wrapped around his body. The snake kite twisted and twirled in the wind, dipping down a little to jump up even higher than before.

Shion imitated the snake's dance on the ground, spinning, jumping, running faster and farther. He tried to move to the rhythm of the upbeat, joyful song that only he could hear.

But in the midst of his frenzied delight, a beautiful voice stopped him.

"Be careful, idiot, you'll fall."

Shion slowed down to face his Nezumi. To anyone else, the way Nezumi spoke to Shion would sound uncaring, cold even. But Shion knew better, he could easily recognize the underlying tones of love and affection. The way Nezumi looked at him was soft and a little bit exasperated. The corners of his mouth curled up just a little bit.

In a flourish, Shion allowed the silver thread connecting him to the kite slip through his fingers. The snake went up and away, going somewhere far, never to be seen again. Shion's attention was no longer directed to the kite. He ran in the opposite direction, flying into Nezumi's open arms.

Nezumi easily embraced him, the years of bashful hesitance behind them. He spoke softly into the albino's ear.

"Why did you do that?" he asked, not caring too much for an answer, but want to speak to Shion anyway.

"We could always make another one," Shion responded.

Nezumi chuckled, a low, pleasant sound, "I suppose."

Shion laughed too, but without saying anything he reached up on his toes to kiss Nezumi, happy to receive the eager kiss back from the taller male.

The wind blew their hair about them as they stood, smiling through a kiss in each other's arms. The rest of the world faded away.
