You step into the house, slightly—very—late, as usual. You're surprised by the number of people there; all of them there for her. There must be five hundred people at the very least. You feel a little awkward, and hopelessly look around for her, for anyone you know, really. You spot Al, but he looks a little... preoccupied. Making your way through the maze of people, you finally see her. She's surrounded by a group of friends, so you decide to greet her later. However, she sees you, and smiles warmly.

"Happy seventeenth, Lily!" you exclaim jovially. She approaches you, and that feeling comes back as you see her fully, making her way towards you. Merlin, she's beautiful. You push it to the back of your mind, not wanting to ruin her special day.

"Hey Teddy, thanks," she says and gives you a hug. You count to three and let go; you can't risk it, especially not today.

"So, I got you a present," you say, and hold up the small gift wrapped box.

"I would hope so! But I want to open it in a quiet place…do you want to go to the shed?" she asks.

"Who am I to deny the birthday girl?" Both of you make your way out the door, and nobody seems to notice. You find the shed surprisingly empty, and walk in with her.

"So, Teddy, for my gift I have a request, " she begins.

"Okay..."

"Well, first you need to agree to anything I say," she prompts him.

"Lily, I'm not terribly rich, so I won't be able to afford—"

"It doesn't cost anything," she says.

"Okay, then...I guess I agree," you say, intrigued.

"You swear?" she asks.

"I swear," you reply, though honestly, you are a bit confused.

"Okay," she takes a deep breath then says, "Kiss me."

You're in shock. "But—Lily I— Well—"

"Teddy Lupin, don't you dare break your promise. I know you want to, and here is your chance," she says.

You know this isn't right, you know you're much too old. You summon up your strength, and imagine Harry's face if he ever found out. You can't do that to him.

So you give her a kiss on the cheek, and say, "Maybe next year," leave your present on the table, and walk out of the shed. You regret it.

Let me know what you think. This is my first TeddyLily romance type fic, so any constructive criticism is welcome. :)
