"Don't worry Castle. I'd break you out of prison."

Castle's jaw dropped as he watched Kate Beckett walk away from him. In his mind – blast his mother to hell and back – she had just said "I love you".

"Coming Castle?"

Richard Castle was dazed as he complied with the detective's order, moving to follow her. Speeding up his steps, he marvelled he felt like a teenager again.

Waiting for the elevator, he looked at her.

She turned to him. "What?" she asked self-consciously.

"You'd really break me out of prison?" he checked.

"You're right," amended Kate. "I should just let you rot there. My life would be so much more peaceful without you in it." She paused a moment. "I guess I'd visit you once a year or so."

"Ouch," the author winced. "That's harsh."

"You can get some inspiration there," continued Beckett, highly amused as the elevator doors opened. Stepping in and turning, she pressed the button for ground floor. "I bet they'd love you there."

Castle shuddered at the prospect. Seeing the doors prepare to close, he rushed in. Standing back against the rail, he turned to his partner. "You have an evil mind."

She grinned."And don't you just love it."

Damn, there was that word again.

He swallowed convulsively. "Yes," he responded and was mortified when his voice pitched high. He coughed to try cover it up.

"You right there Castle?" asked Beckett as they reached their level.

"Yeah." The author waved off her concern. "Just a little something stuck in my throat."

"Well, man up," ordered the detective. "We've got another case."

"Yes d-ma'am."

Finito.
