'Ruby will you just GO to school please' Yelled Charlie. Ruby knew something was wrong with her mum, but her moods usually reflected things with Brax so she did as she was asked.
Charlie paced through the living room and kitchen checking her watch desperately. It was time; the longest 3 minutes of her life had just passed. She headed back to her bedroom were she had left the pregnancy test. Charlie approached the test many times, before eventually picking it up. She couldn't believe her eyes, 2 lines, PREGNANT. How? They had been so careful. 'Hi its me, I really need to see you, call me back' She put the phone down and stared back to the test.
Brax was busy setting up the restaurant for the lunch rush. There was a summer fun day on the beach; he was expecting lots of business. Just as he opened up, he checked his phone. He assumed he would see Charlie at the fun day later.
Leah came home 'Everything ok, Charlie' 'Yeah fine, just getting ready for work' Charlie shouted from the bedroom'. 'Are you working at the fun day?' Leah asked. 'Yes, this afternoon, I'll call in the diner and see you' Charlie popped her head round the door and waved Leah off.
Charlie and Watson headed down to the beach, keeping their eyes on the river boys. This was a family fun day and they wanted to keep it that way. 'Charlie I think we have an issue' Watson looked concerned. 'Hammers gang are watching from the edge of the beach'. 'Ok lets not get over excited just yet, we don't want anyone panicking, but get some back up on standby' Charlie ordered.
Brax was exhausted; it had been a mad busy afternoon at the restaurant. 'Liam can you get everything ready for opening tonight? I'm going to head down and see the boys on the beach'. 'Sure boss' Liam said sarcastically.
Charlie walked along the top of the beach and saw river boys and hammers gang stood very close to each other. 'Georgina this is going to go off, get back up NOW!' No sooner had she said those words, the gangs began fighting. Charlie and Watson had no option but to go in and try and break things up.
Both gangs dispersed as soon as the police as arrived; amongst the scramble Charlie had been knocked to the ground.
Ruby, Casey and Brax were walking along and saw Charlie on the floor, Watson kneeling over her. Charlie was clutching her stomach. Ruby ran down to the beach screaming her mothers name, Casey and Brax followed. Sid saw the commotion and had come to help.
'I've phoned an ambulance Charlie, we'll have you feeling better in no time' Sid reassured her. 'Now just a few questions I have to ask, Are you pregnant?' Charlie looked blank, should she lie, with everybody stood around her, or should she tell the truth and face all the questions. 'I took a pregnancy test this morning it was positive' Charlie told Sid with a tear in her eye. 'OK I need a stretcher' Charlie was taken away to hospital with her daughter holding her hand.
In the hospital room Ruby fires questions at Charlie, 'Rubes, I love you, but I think this is something I really need to do with Brax, could you get him' Ruby left to get Brax from the waiting room.
Charlie, Brax and Sid are in the ultrasound room, Charlie looks scared, Brax has tears in his eyes, but is holding it together. 'Why didn't you tell me Charlie?' 'I only found out this morning, I was terrified'. Sid was moving over her stomach with the ultrasound, he looks at Charlie and Brax 'I'm so sorry there is no heartbeat'. Sid leaves the room and Charlie collapses into Brax's arms sobbing. 'our baby is gone Brax.' All he could do was hold her.
A few hours later, Brax is taking Charlie home, Ruby and Casey are waiting 'Charlie I'm so….' Ruby and Charlie hugged and cried. 'come on, lets get you some rest' Brax put Charlie to bed.
Brax made his way to the front door 'were are you going?' Casey knew the answer but had to ask. 'to find who killed my baby!' Casey ran out the door after him.
