If you just had a minute to breath
And they granted you a final wish
Would you ask for something like another chance?
Luffy would. He would ask for Ace back. He may have Sabo; who 'joined' and allied with the Mugiwara pirates, but he wanted Ace back. He wanted to stop the nightmares, he wanted his heart to be whole.
He was always running behind, he still was that seven year old who first met the boy who would become his older brother.
And so, as he stood in front of Ace's grave, touching shoulders with Sabo, neither of the brothers could breathe, their grief suffocating, lost in the memories of a better time. They heard a far-off clatter of sake glasses, as three boys in the past shared sake and an oath of brotherhood.
"From this day forth, we are brothers!" came Ace's voice from that day, along with the echo of Luffy' s laugh, and Sabo' s agreeing 'Yeah!'.
Both took a deep breath.
"Please... Give us..." Sabo began.
"Our brother back!" Luffy finished.
"NEITHER OF US CAN DIE UNLESS ACE DIES WITH US! WE WANT NO REGRETS WHEN WE DIE, BUT ACE... HE DIED WITH REGRETS! GIVE HIM BACK!"
The two brothers broke down in front of the grave, remembering their childhood, the days with Ace that they could never have again, before the day Sabo was ripped away.
They heard laughter behind them, familiar laughter, laughter that had always came from the soon of Gold Roger.
They turned, and there he stood. He didn't have his hat, nor his knife, but it was him.
"A-Ace..." gasped Luffy.
"I heard you. They let me have a second chance, cause of my promise with Luffy." Ace spoke. He then grinned the infamous Inheritor of the Will of D grin, which was returned by his brothers.
"Mind if I joined you, Lu?" questioned Ace.
"Sure!" Luffy grinned, "Co-captains?"
"Co-captains." Ace nodded.
"Just one thing?"
"Yeah?"
"Tell us..."
"Do you want to live?"
"Of course I do! I have my brothers."
"Then let's go."
