The CICO materialised.

The Lieutenant crawled out and stood up and looked around himself. He was surrounded by panintings. A lot of them.

Here was the strange thing. Somewhere in some part of each painting was the same word repeated again and again.

The Lieutenant read them all: Luitenant, Toger, Leytenant, Tenienteak, Poručnik, Løjtnant, Leŭtenanto, Leitnant, Tininte, Luutnantti, Tenente, Leutnant, Lyetnan, Leftana, Hadnagy, Letnan, Leifteanant, Praefectus, Leitnants, Leitenantas, Leftenan, Logutenent, Løytnant, Porucznik, Locotenent, Molefothenente, Teniente, Létnan, Luteni, Löjtnant, Teĝmen, Leytenant, Dai Úy Hái Quân, Is-gapten, uLieutenant and finally Lieutenant. Someone was looking for him. How old were these paintings?

An arm moved and realising its accident, became still immediately.

The Lieutenant noticed. "Guys. Don't come out. Danger," he bellowed.

Inside the CICO, Sandy, Catina and Ann were alarmed but watched on the hologram.

'Why was I brought here?' thought the Lieutenant.

The paintings were now climbing out of their frames.

The Lieutenant was backing into the corner.

"You were brought here, Lieutenant, because you are guilty of breaking the Laws of Time."

The paintings had reached him.

The Lieutenant ducked. "What about it?" he asked.

"It is an offence against the Time Lords."

The Lieutenant was sitting beside the CICO.

The paintings turned and were moving towards him.

"Oh! I get it! I get it! You're going to force me to regenerate followed by exile in a disfunctioning CICO!" screamed the Lieutenant.

"TARDIS," corrected the over voice.

"CICO," corrected the Lieutenant.

"No. Vapourisation."

Slowly, the Lieutenant's atoms started to erase from existence.

The CICO materialised around the Lieutenant and dematerialised.

"Blimey, thank you," said the Lieutenant. "That was not pleasant. Guys, there's something I have to tell you. I cut my hand escaping them. Abrasian, localised."

"Does that mean you're going to regenerate?" asked Sandy.

"No. Not necessarily. I might regenerate. Death is arriving quicker," said the Lieutenant.

Sandy, Catina and Ann stared.

NEXT TIME:

The Lieutenant collapsed.

Sandy came to the Lieutenant's aid.

The light had gone from his eyes. The Lieutenant grinned and shook his head.
