As a general rule, I don't usually like taking my eyes off the big bad beasties, but since the big bad beastie in question couldn't come through the doorway without her permission, I was willing to make an exception. Also, it's much easier to keep a gun pointed at someone's head when you're actually looking at them.
Kate's eyes flicked between me and the beast in the doorway. I could practically see her making the decision. Now, I like to think I'm reasonably good at this sort of thing, but even I know that a human doesn't stand a chance against one of the Beasts in a confined space. And, if my last Beast based experience was anything to go by, bullets seem more likely to annoy the crap out of them than do any real damage.
"Kate. You let that thing in here, you die"
Kate raised her left eyebrow. Yet one more thing she seemed to be able to do that I couldn't. I try to raise a single eyebrow and the entire of my forehead moves.
"Really?" She said, glancing back over at the Beast. "Because I'm not so sure. I've heard sometimes one body is enough for them."
I took a step forward, forcing her to look back at me. I met her eyes and adopted my best clinically cold killer style voice.
"If you let that thing in here, the first thing I'll shoot is you"
I was pissed off enough to believe that I'd probably do it. I really didn't want to be ripped to shreds, but I especially didn't want to be ripped to shreds while she stood there considering what she should do with the rest of her day.
Kate spread her arms, palms up. "Shoot little ol' defenseless me?"Obviously what I'd thought was a clinically cold killer style voice wasn't, because she turned towards the Beast and politely asked it to come in.
"Please come in Mr. Beast sir, and try not to eat me."
