Finding Love

He's lost his will

He walks alone.

The pieces of his lonely youth

Are scattered on the streets.

All the mistakes that one life can take

Are fit into a few abandoned years.

He doesn't know what it's like

What it's like to be happy.

Running from his past

Hiding from his future.

He seems to be the picture of hate,

But secretly dreams of love.

The love that has been deprived

Is something he can only imagine.

Something that he needs

So desperately needs.

Slowly,

Quietly,

He's lost all hope,

He's lost his dreams.

He forgets what trust is,

What happiness is,

What joy is,

What love is.

Then suddenly,

Without a warning,

She steps into his life,

Takes him by the hand.

Leads him into the light,

And sees all the things,

That no one else had looked

Quite far enough to find.

Cautiously,

Very cautiously,

He begins to trust again

And starts to love.

He thinks he knows what heaven is,

That he couldn't be happier.

He's never had someone,

Someone to call his own.

He's been hurt before,

Let down before,

Abused before,

And abandoned before.

But something inside him,

Something he can't explain

Says,

Love is forever.

Love is forever,

He says to himself.

But,

What is love?

He thinks about it,

Looks to an angled mirror,

Sees her reflection

And smiles.

He understands what love is.

It's when you miss them,

You miss them with all your heart,

When they haven't even left the room.

It's when they take your hand

Away from yours,

And for one moment,

You feel alone.

But when they smile,

Or say,

I love you,

You could do anything.

It's when you don't feel complete without them.

Because they are a witness to your life.

They say that your life

Has not been wasted.

They say that your life

Has not been wasted,

But loved,

And cherished.

Love is something you have to feel

To believe.

It can't be learned from a book,

Or taught in a class.

Love is a passion.

It can't be ignored.

Love is something you have to feel to believe.

That's what love is.
