Over the course of history, the Hunger Games saw 210 Victors. And while some of those Victors may appear to be much like another, they were in fact all different.
Some were big, and some were small. Some were older, some were younger. Some were muscled, some were malnourished. Some won regular Games, some won Quarter Quells, and some won Ancillary Games. No matter who they were, however, each and every Victor has their own unique story. And each one of those stories deserves to be told.
Now, with the Fourth Rebellion having come to an end, the Capitol and districts unified once more, the new President of Panem has decided to take the time to stand onstage, and list off the names of these courageous young men and women who have entered the Hunger Games and lived to tell the tale.
"Good afternoon to all of you," the President begins, looking over the crowd and the camera focused on her. "Today, in honor of all those who survived the cruel, nationwide punishment known as the Hunger Games, in honor of the many of them that are no longer here with us, I will stand before you and read off the list of the courageous young men and women who survived these deadly Games."
A giant screen comes to life behind the President as she prepares to read the first name. On the screen behind President Rosehearty is the face of the Victor of the first ever Hunger Games. An average District Two boy who, for the first eighteen years of his life, was nothing more than your average citizen of Two. Until that day, Reaping Day of 1 PR, 179 years and a few months ago, there was nothing to set him apart from any other eighteen-year-olds from Two. As soon as his name came out of that Reaping Ball, however, just like countless others after him, his life was changed forever.
President Rosehearty clears her throat before reading the first name on the long list of Victors.
"Rome Artiman."
A/N: Okay, okay. This is my last re-vamp, promise.
Anyways, I've been unhappy with my poor writing in at least the first few chapters of COS, and have also been disappointed by my slow progress with the story. I've always liked stories like this, though I've also always cared for ones that give you a description of each Games.
So, I figured, why not do both?
Join me, President Rosehearty, and all of your favorite Victors from throughout the Games as each of their unique stories are told. It should be a fun ride, I would hope.
This story is a companion to my new rendition of my Games-only story, Chances of Survival. While it is not necessary to read both, I would obviously recommend you do in a bout of shameless self-promotion. This story takes inspiration from some of my older Hunger Games incarnations such as the original Chances of Survival and even my long-deleted The Hunger Games: Year By Year. This story is also inspired by some great similar works such as The Victor's Project and Cheating Death: Those That Lived.
Now that all of that stuff is said, any thoughts on President Rosehearty's decision? Will it be beneficial and honor the fallen Victors, or would you say the move is more like a punch in the gut to the district citizens? I'm interested to hear your thoughts.
Until next time.
