.my decaying star.

-

(Hey, let's go outside.)

He raises his head and looks at me like I've just asked him the stupidest question in the universe, his amethyst eyes narrowed. I let my eyes slid to the floor and shuffled my feet, my whole face heating up.

"It's just that, I thought we'd go have a walk or something and-"

He pursed his lips, turned away and completely ignored me, continuing with whatever he was doing.

"Kira, it's snowing! You know I've never seen the snow before! And I want to see it with you-"

He turns back to me with a strained expression on his face. "No." He said coldly.

"But, Kira-"

"I said no."

I took a step backwards. He looks away and ignores me again, staring into empty space. Tears stung my eyes as I ran outside, slamming the door.

-

I had a dream last night.

I was floating, mindlessly, among the stars, millions of stars.

And then, I spotted it, a tiny, insignificant gap in the great constellation.

A tiny, insignificant star is missing.

-

(Can I talk to you for a second?)

"What is it?"

He gives me a radiant smile as I sat beside him. The bed made a creaking noise. He gave a light giggle and crawled towards me, resting his head on my right shoulder. I slipped an arm around his slender waist.

"You, Kira Yamato, need to go on a diet." He said, pressing his forehead against mine.

I whispered in his ear, "No kidding." squeezing his side.

(What was it you wanted to tell me?)

(...you know what? It doesn't really matter.)

-

"How... how long does he have?"

"Three months. I'm so sorry. If only it was discovered earlier-"

"It doesn't really matter, there must be a cure."

"There is no cure for cancer. You must know that better than anyone."

"Hey, let's go outside."

I look up and see him looking at me, his pale right hand gripping the door knob. I didn't even hear him open it. He seemed to misinterpret my hard expression and averted his gaze towards the floor, shuffling his feet. I couldn't help but think at how cute the way he was acting.

"It's just that, I thought we'd go have a walk or something-"

(Don't take him outside too frequently, his body might not be able to take it.)

I pursed my lips and turned away, trying to ignore his significant presence.

You are everything to me. I can't lose you.

"Kira, it's snowing! You know I've never seen the snow before! And I want to see it with you-"

Three months.

I turn towards him again and tried to smile at him but I only managed with a strained expression. "No." I said, surprised at how cold my voice sounded.

"But, Kira-"

Three months.

"I said no!"

He took a step backwards as I screamed at him, his beautiful eyes widening slightly. I turned away, unable to face him again and stared hard at the bookshelf. His soft, running footsteps and the sound of the slamming door echoed in my mind.

Then, I heard another door being closed. My eyes widen.

He's going without me.

I wasn't surprised to find myself already running outside the door, my blue cloak pressed tightly against my chest and Athrun's white mittens in my hand.

-

"No, I don't wanna go..."

Startled, my eyes widen.

"What? That was not what you said this morning when I asked you." I held out the tickets to him and he stared at them.

Then, he shook his head, "No." and disappeared into the bathroom. I followed him.

"Athrun...?"

He was standing in front of the mirror, staring at his hands. I approached him slowly and looked at what was in his hands.

Hair.

I looked at him again to see tears forming in his eyes. "Athrun..." He choked down a sob as I pulled him into my arms, rubbing soothing circles at his back, pressing my nose against his warm forehead.

"Don't worry, everything's going to be okay. I'll make sure of that."

"Promise?"

Promise.
