Jack started to play the piano.

"We're all alone, no chaperone

Can get our number

The world's in slumber

Let's misbehave."

Her voice was sultry, dark and smooth, like hot chocolate slipping down his throat on a cold winter's morning.

He added his lazy tenor:

"There's something wild about you child

That's so contagious

Let's be outrageous

Let's misbehave."

Their voices joined in perfect harmony:

"You know my heart is true

and you say you for me care

Somebody's sure to tell

But what the hell do we care?"

"They say that bears have love affairs

And even camels,"

she rolled her eyes,

"We're merely mammals

Let's misbehave."

Her voice took on a cheeky tone and she smiled.

"We're merely mammals

Let's misbehave."

She lifted her pitch to blend perfectly with his.

The last notes died away and they looked at each other, a perfect partnership.

Jack stood up and extended his hand, wordlessly, to her. As their eyes met she understood exactly what he had in mind, and accepted the touch.

She didn't know what she expected but it wasn't this. Jack slowly and gently undressed her and then let her undress him, equally as slowly. He explored every plane of her body, almost reverently, and made love to her with a surety and generosity she had never known.

If Phryne had woken early she would have seen and heard one of Victoria's finest Detective Inspectors, sauntering down her front path, hands in pockets, tie hanging loosely round his neck and collar open, whistling his new favourite song.
