A/N-Prequels! Everyone loves 'em!
Raia was bored. She had run out of things to fiddle with and/or take apart, so she gave up on her efforts to stay busy and let her gaze drift out her bedroom window.
There, in the front yard of the house directly across the street, was a girl. She'd never seen this girl before.
"Hey, honey."
"Hey, Dad. What's up?"
Raia's dad was carrying a basket of laundry. "I needed to put another load of laundry in the dryer and your stuff was still in there. You were supposed to fold this."
Raia sighed. "Forgot. Sorry."
Her dad put the laundry on her bed. He walked across her room and kissed the top of her head.
"Hey, while you're over here...Who's that?" Raia pointed at the girl across the street.
Her dad peered over her shoulder. "That must be Catherine! God, I haven't seen her family in years!"
Raia smiled. Catherine. She was going to meet this girl.
Cat heard a knock on the door. She languidly stretched as her mom opened the door. She pushed herself out of the big armchair and padded over to look over her mom's shoulder.
"Hey, I'm Raia-"
"Raia? I haven't seen you in years! You've grown up so much!"
"Um, yeah. I was just coming over to see Catherine. Since it's been so long. I figured I should reintroduce myself."
"Of course. I'll go find her."
Cat tapped her mother on the shoulder. "I'm right here, Mom."
"Here you are, sunshine! This is Raia. Remember her?"
"I'm sorry, but no."
Raia laughed. "That's okay. I didn't remember you either. Wanna come outside?"
Cat looked at her mom. "Can I?"
"Go ahead."
"So we used to be friends as kids. Or our parents were, I guess."
"Yeah."
"So, Catherine."
"It's Cat."
"Oh. Well, I should probably start with the reason I came over."
"Sure."
"I, uh, saw you mowing the lawn."
"Oh, God. You saw me?"
"I'm sorry, I was really bored and just looking out my window-"
"It's fine. I usually look gross when I'm mowing the lawn, that's all."
"You look great now."
Cat looked down at her gray sweatpants, flip-flops, and baggy white T-shirt. She looked back up at Raia and raised an eyebrow.
Raia blushed. "I mean, you looked great mowing the lawn too, but I didn't want to argue with you..."
Cat started smirking.
"What?"
"My gaydar is going off out of control right now."
Raia's blush got deeper. "Yep. I'm bi. You?"
Cat took a deep breath. "Me too. Female preference. But no one knows."
"Me neither!"
Cat grinned. "I'm glad that's out of the way. Wanna get to know each other? Again?"
"Hell yeah."
