(Tony's POV)
Pepper Potts is the most important person in my life. She's my rock, best friend, and the woman I love; she just doesn't know that yet. We are at some stupid event she made me go to and now Pepper's dancing with someone who's not me. The guy was absolutely awful looking and I wanted to get her away from him so bad. I need her with me. We're like two puzzle pieces that magically fit together.

(Pepper's POV)
I danced quietly with some guy named George but I only did it to be polite. I hated the way Tony looked at me sadly and I desperately wanted to go over to him.
"Well, this has been great, George, but I really must leave now."
He grinned a toothy grin at her and said, "I've only just begun my fun with you, Miss Potts."
Pepper got a wave of disgust and said louder, "I have to get back to my boss."
George tightened his grip on her and it was almost painful. "You're so beautiful."
"And I think you're hard of hearing. Let me go."
"Fine, go. Just know you're nothing more than a pretty face to him."
"How dare you!" Pepper broke away from his grasp and walked away. She knew what he said wasn't true but she was still upset by it.

(Tony's POV)
When he put his hands on her like that, I literally wanted to kill him. I started to get up and intervene but she had already walked away from him. Pepper sat down at a nearby table and Tony went over to join her.
"Hey." He smiled as he sat down across from her.
"Hey." She smiled back.
"You okay?"
"Yeah but Tony, can I ask you something?"
"Anything."
"I'm more than just a pretty face to you, right?" Her blue eyes gazed into his bourbon ones as his face fell.
"What?! Of course you are! Did he say that? I'll kill him-"
"Tony, don't."
"Pepper, you are gorgeous, intelligent, funny, and beautiful. Don't let anyone else tell you different."

Pepper reached across the table and laced her hand through his. "Thank you. That means more to me than you'll ever know."
"No problem. You wanna get out of here? We can go back to my place and watch a movie."
"Is Tony Stark asking me out on a date?" Pepper said teasingly.
"Maybe." He grinned as he stood up with her.
They were both at the mansion cuddled up on the couch and wrapped up in each other's arms.
"Pepper, I wanna take this slow because I can't screw this up. You mean everything to me."
Pepper laid her head on his shoulder and whispered, "You're never gonna get rid of me now."
Tony chuckled as he placed a kiss on her head and said, "I'll always want you."
Pepper gazed up at him with watery eyes and placed a kiss on his lips.
