He was thirteen years old when he noticed Lily Evans in a way other than acknowledging her as the slightly geeky and somewhat irritating girl that somehow always managed to beat him on exams. It was their third year at Hogwarts and oddly enough he did not notice her on the train, or during Charms class as she got question after question correct. He didn't manage to anger her within the first few seconds of them meeting, nor did he impress her with his amazing Quidditch skills or ability in Transfiguration. In fact, it wasn't until their second trip to Hogsmeade that he noticed her, dressed in an olive green sweater and a pair of cream colored pants, hair thrown in a careless ponytail, wearing minimal makeup.
"Oof," she groaned as she slammed into James, all but sprinting down the stairs of the girls' dormitory. She looked startled for a moment as she looked into his eyes, though she needn't look far since they were still the same height, large green eyes widening in shock as she said, "Sorry bout that Potter, in a bit of a rush to meet Marlene for breakfast!" And with that she was out the portal, quickly on her way to the Great Hall again.
James stood there shocked. "You good there, mate?" Peter asked him, glancing down to make sure his friend was okay as Sirius and Remus could be heard arguing from their dormitory.
"Peteā¦did you notice Evans today?" he started slowly.
"Well what about her?"
It was because she ran into him on the second Hogsmeade trip of their Third Year that James Potter noticed Lily Evans in a way other than acknowledging her as the slightly geeky and somewhat irritating girl that somehow always managed to beat him on exams. "That sweater she was wearing, it was bloody amazing."
Peter looked at his friend as if he had grown a second head. "Her sweater? Are you feeling alright today James?" James Potter was not one to normally compliment girls on their fashion choices, yet here he was, immobile and eyes closed as if he was imagining the girl in front of him, wearing the same green sweater.
"Alright? Oh I'm more than alright Pete," James grinned stupidly. The sweater that Lily was wearing today was perfect, not because of the way that the green complimented her pale skin and red hair, somewhat reminding him of Christmas. It also wasn't because of the way that it made her green eyes look exceptionally bright, despite being framed by eyelashes that she always considered too short to be useful for anything. "Did you see Evans' tits in that thing? Bloody marvelous. She can run into me any day wearing that."
And that was the first thing James ever noticed about Lily Evans.
Hi, haven't done a story in quite some time but I felt inspired? And he's a 13 year old boy, what do you THINK he's gonna notice first? ;)
