Coming Home
Walking through the doorway, he set his bags down and surveyed the familiar home. The house was the perfect blend between cozy and classy that's personality perfectly matched that of the woman who lived there—the woman he loved. Taking a few steps into the home he looked to his left to see into the living room. The only light came from the fire place but still with the flickering lights he could tell that the individual he was searching for wasn't in the room. The man then continued his search through the first floor of the house and when it came to no avail moved onward walking up the spiraling staircase.
Opening the first door to his right he was beyond surprised to see the office lights off and no being in sight, not that this upset him. He was rather pleased knowing she hadn't spent the evening working. After turning back around and closing the door behind him he heard the soft music coming from the master bedroom. The music that played through the home often changed. It would be some modern pop singer he couldn't name one day, 80s rock another, and Broadway classics the next. On this particular evening however it was the melodious sounds of Louis Armstrong's trumpet that bounced through the air. Pushing the door open he was pleased to finally find the one he had been searching for.
Standing in the doorway, he smiled as he observed the woman dancing a little as she searched through her drawers for her silk night gown. Locating the gown she turned still humming to the tune oblivious to the man watching her until she heard his voice cut through the music.
"Well Good evening."
"Kurt! You startled me." Diane stopped immediately, blushing a bit.
"Sorry, you just looked like you were enjoying yourself. Is this what you do when I am not here?" He continued smiling finding her slight embarrassment amusing.
"Sometimes. And wipe that grin off your face, it's not that funny" she'd regained her composure and was now standing tall smiling back at the man.
"I'm not mocking you, I think you dance beautifully."
"You're lying through your teeth, but I'll take the compliment anyway. Thank you." She moved closer to him, they both hadn't removed their smiles. When she was close enough to him that he could touch her he reached out pulling her close to him wrapping his arms around her waist and trying to sound slightly affronted he replied
"I would never, isn't your dancing the reason I fell in love with you?"
"Oh is it? I wasn't sure. I guess I always assumed it was my dazzling smile and witty political commentary" laughing she couldn't help but feel happy to have him back home, to feel his arms around her and hear his laugh once again.
"I can't deny that those both factored in. I guess I just love everything about you." Diane hadn't believed that her smile could get any wider, but she was proven wrong.
"I love you too." And before she had the opportunity to kiss him he had grabbed her hand and began leading her in a dance around the room. Diane tilting her head back now laughing followed his lead as they tangoed throughout the room with mock seriousness. The tango soon turned into a more swing like dance better pairing with the music. As they twirled throughout the room Kurt observed Diane as she broke into a smile when he dipped her back, a smile that was very much mirrored on his own face.
As the song came to a close they both fell to the bed laughing. Rolling over Diane rested her head onto Kurt's chest as he wrapped his arms around her. There they stayed content to be in the others embrace after so long apart. Both believing that they have truly found happiness.
