When he had found the large hall during the first of many walks around the city, the idea had simply popped into his head. It was several floors high and spacious enough to easily accommodate a crowd of several hundred. That day had been life changing in so many ways, often in ways that weren't apparent until days or even months later. Not that it had mattered at the time, just as long as nothing impeded the work at hand.

And in order to accomplish that task, he'd become an expert negotiator in order to gain the necessary supplies, learned more about construction engineering than he'd ever dreamed of, and learned the fine art of material fabrication. Every spare moment had been spent working in what he now called 'the mall' because there had been a deadline to meet.

Today.

One year later.

"Will you not turn it on?" Teyla asked. Dear, sweet Teyla who seemed to understand without words being spoken. Why couldn't he have fallen for her instead?

"No. The first ride belongs to John."

Rodney turned the lights off in 'the mall' and watched as the moonlight reflected off the addition to the architecture.

A Ferris Wheel.

It would gather dust as much of the city was and eventually be forgotten to time.

"Happy birthday John." Rodney whispered softly. If Teyla noticed his tears as she lead him away, she said nothing.
