Tiger Lillies

John occasionally recalled, as if it were a dream (Oh, John, Wendy sighed, just a dream?), the feeling of flying free through the stars (Second to the right and straight on 'til morning, a child's voice laughed in his head). Sometimes, the dream ended in terror as water rose to meet him at his certain doom.

His dreams often lingered on through the day, most unnervingly. He made himself a garden to walk in as a way to remind himself of solid ground. He always planted tiger lilies (he wasn't sure why he was compelled to) but consistently, they died.
