Chapter 1: Setting Out

Disclaimer: I do not own LoZ, but I wish that I did. On the other hand, I do own Kaym, Sammy, and Hassa. A/N: This is my first fic, so please be easy on me.

It was the morning of Kaym's thirteenth birthday. His younger sister, Sammy, was still asleep. Kaym tiptoed out of his room, and left a note telling where he was going. He walked out of the house into the frigid early morning air. Not many people were about. He spotted his friend, Hassa, who was also celebrating his thirteenth birthday today, and some adults with darker shadows than seemed necessary. He walked into the store, and bought some food for his family. The royal family of Hyrule would not spare any Rupees for peasants like himself.
Kaym stopped to talk with Hassa on the way back. They both came of age today, and were nervous, because today they would be starting the long and arduous journey to the Mountain of the Shiekah to obtain the alternate souls that would follow them everywhere. Many people never returned from this trek through forest, wetland, fire, desert, and mountain. Kaym made to go back to his house, but doubled around to a secret place that he knew that would get him into the castle.
He approached a cliff face, and began to scale it, using a vine that was very hard to see. He got into the castle, avoided the guards, and came to the courtyard where he and Princess Zelda's Shiekah attendant Impa planned the journey. This was the custom, but nobody was supposed to know when you met with Impa. Impa was already there, and said to Kaym, "I know that you can do this Kaym. We have planned it out so that nothing can go wrong, and yet, I still feel a sort of.dread.at your going. It is almost as if your presence has held of an evil here, but now that you are leaving.never mind. Here, take this." Impa handed Kaym a yellowed piece of parchment. Upon closer inspection, Kaym saw that it was a map to the Mountain of the Shiekah. He thanked her, and started to sneak out, but she halted him. She came up to him, and, without warning, threw a Deku nut at his head. It flashed brightly, and when it subsided, he was next to his house. He walked in, rubbing his head, and, since his parents still were not up, started cooking, and then packed for his long journey. When he finished, his parents and sister were awake, and he bid them all farewell. He walked out again and found Hassa waiting for him. They were to take the journey together. They both tried not to think about the immense task that lay before them.
As they stepped foot off of the drawbridge, they felt stronger, and set out to get a Shiekah partner
