A/N I really think it would have been great if they had this scene in the movie a flashback of sorts. But they didn't so I wrote it out. Movie is still one of the best movies I have ever seen great actors and a great plot. Go rent or buy The Others.

That moment. The moment Grace went mad.

!!

Grace woke, the light gently urging her out of bed. She looked over to the other side. No Charles just her. It was raining. Depression had been seeping it's way into her veins for the longest. She missed her husband terribly. Everyday she woke up hoping it was all just a dream. But at least she had her darling children; and the servants, who had been with her for years. She lived here in this house most of her life, even after her family left and her parents died. She walked to the kitchen expecting to see her servants preparing breakfast.

No one. She grew annoyed. "Sleeping in, eh?" she thought. She walked down to their rooms. The bed was made but the room was empty. She also noticed something else; the room looked unlived in. No personal belongings, no pictures. The closet was empty. She looked in at room, after room, after room. Nothing. No one.

She started to panic; she hadn't been off this island in years. She needed people. The walls started to close in on her. 'Everyone's leaving me!' Her family, her parents, Charles, the servants, she would not be left alone. Not again!

She walked to the children's room, a mad desperation coming over her. She opened the door the room was entirely dark, the curtains being drawn. They were still sleeping. She pulled the pillow out from underneath Anne's head. Anne woke.

"Mummy? What are you-?"

Grace put the pillow over her face. Anne started to scream and fight back. That only made Grace try harder. Anne stopped moving. She took the pillow away. Nicolas woke.

"Mummy?"

He noticed Anne. Her blank stare, open mouth, and non moving chest. And something… something was not right with his mother. He sensed it. And it scared him.

"What's wrong with her?" he asked, frightened. "I'm going for help-"

Grace shoved him back onto his bed, and put the pillow over his face. She heard his muffled screams and cries.

"No! You will not leave me! You're not going to leave me!" she screamed. He finally stopped moving. She was panting hard. She looked at both of her children. "You will not leave me", she repeated. She started to calm down. Her mind came back. She looked at the pillow in her hand. Why do I have this pillow? She looked at her children and smiled. Still sleeping I see. Then she saw their faces. There was something wrong.

"Children? children? Anne? Nicolas?"

Why aren't they moving? Wait-why aren't they breathing? Oh no…

She looked at the pillow in her hand, then back at them. Oh no! It dropped and hit the ground with a soft thud.

"Noooooooo! God-please, no!"

She ran over and grabbed both of her now dead children. I've killed my children!

"Oh Lord in heaven, what have I done? I'm so sorry" she sobbed. She cried for an hour holding them and rocking back and forth. She closed their eyes and mouths, and laid them down.

She went to her room and found her rifle. She put it to her forehead. She glanced at her dresser and saw the picture of her, Charles, and the children right before he went off to war.

"I'll be with you all again soon", she whispered. She pulled the trigger. Nothing.

!!

She woke up to the sound of laughing. Anne and Nicolas. She ran to their room. They were having a pillow fight.

"Oh, the Lord in his great mercy has given me another chance!"She thought as she ran towards her children and hugged them to her. As she hugged them she heard, 'Don't give up. Be a good mother to them. Be strong.'
