The autumn leaves crunch under their feet as they slowly make their way through the park.
It wasn't his idea of a Saturday morning. Sweet cereal and cartoons have been the routine since Parker was small, but when he asked her to spend the day with them, she suggested this. He could hardly say no.
Parker's found a neat looking bug. Booth can't help but grin as Brennan kneels with him and points out the different features of its exoskeleton.
She stands as Parker runs down the path towards the swing sets. Smiling, she kinks her eyebrow and asks, "What?" He just shakes his head, another time, maybe.
They start down the path after Parker and it occurs to him how normal this must look to the outside world: like any other couple out enjoying a Saturday morning walk in the park. The outside world has no idea of the dance they're doing, the steps forward and back. The outside world doesn't know about going at a snail's pace even though your heart is aching to go faster, faster –
She slips her hand into his, immediately pulling him back from the rambling thoughts in his head. Their fingers lace and he sees Parker waving from the swings.
Maybe the outside world isn't so far off after all.
