Taking My Path

Trees and more trees drifted in and out of my window as I stare into endless woods. Going under bridges here and there while we traveled. Here I was sitting in a car, listening to the snores of my little brother Souta.

"Mom?" I asked turning my head to the drivers seat.

"Yes?" My mother replied.

"How much longer till we get there?"

My mother stared blankly at the road a few minutes before I began to see lights in the distance. "This is the town. 15 minutes tops till we get to the house." I could hear the weariness in her voice straining. Ten hours in a car with a hyper kid and a moody teenager will do that to you.

As far as I'm concerned the move is a waste of my time, while Souta thinks it's one of the most exciting event that could happen in his life. What could be exciting about leaving where you grew up, where you learned to ride a bike, where you made your friends, or even starting school. We had everything there and a future waiting to happen. Then all this drama started.

"Kagome, wake your brother. We're here" My mom snapped me out of my angry thoughts. I looked back and smacked Souta's leg and successfully waking him up. Questioning groggy eyes were the only reply I received. "We're here." I answered his silent questions. The car started to turn on a rock drive way, the potholes jerking me from my once comfortable position. Just what I needed, this new house already made great first impressions. My eyes rolled when I got a look at the house. An old fashion house with a porch hugging around the house, kind of like an Antebellum house, I guess. The wood was gray with age, and parts of it, looked like it was going to fall apart. The second story didn't look too bad, I mean there was small balconies on some of the windows. The place still looked like it was falling apart.

"Don't worry about getting the stuff, we'll get it in the morning when it's daylight." Mama said shutting her door. I stayed behind and watch her make her way to the porch. Somehow I couldn't bring myself to get out of the car to go inside. It was like I would be accepting the fact that there was no turning back. My body was already aching from being so still, so I gave up my pride and walked to the house. Too tired to care, I made my way up the stairs and crawled to the nearest room. A bed was pushed in a corner welcoming me, I took it's greeting and closed my eyes. Hello sleep, goodbye reality.
