Soon You'll Come Home

There was a wish that she made upon the evening star one night. Sitting at the highest branches of a tree while staring up into the starry night sky above, clutching a picture in hand from which her gaze wandered down and a sad smile appeared. Holding the picture earnestly close and hard against her very heart, a sigh with a soft sound of a whisper echoed into the night; a prayer full of purely innocent and loving hope in the form of a young girl seeking a father to love her and cherish her always.

"Please…evening star…God…make it come true…let him come home…to my heart…"

A rustle of the wind blowing against the trees came, playing with her hair for a bit, causing a shiver and arms to wrap around her small frame, seeking internal warmth. Remembering another sort of warmth she desperately sought after only to be denied at every turn. Wanting, seeking a picture in her head she wished with all of her might to come true. Of strong arms holding her close and making her feel safe in them, providing comfort from where she sought sulfur from a man that created her. Gazing down at her with soft, affectionate blue eyes with a gentle smile as he held her close and protectively, as though the very world was out to get her and he would fight to the very end for his little girl. Where bed time stories and mornings at breakfast, getting ready for school, going out to the park to have picnics together, watching the Packers game, him teaching her how to use her powers, her begging him for a puppy, all of it becomes real as well as the love that is shared between the two. There would be photos of the years, albums, memories that will be cherished forever in their hearts.

She would be his daughter.

He would be her father.

They wouldn't need anything but each other.

Oh how Danielle wanted that dream to come true, she really. Of having Vlad Masters come home to her awaiting arms from where there was nothing but love. The love of a daughter to a father waiting back home for him everyday, knowing that he is loved by someone. Knowing that no matter what, she will always be right there waiting.

Danielle dreamed of such things that come straight from the heart, only to wake up and cry when finding no sign whatsoever of the father she wanted so badly.

That makes the heart ache worse.

So, the little girl pretends that her father is far away on a business trip and he writes her letter every day, saying he'll come home very soon. That soon, they won't be apart, never actually, as long as she keeps dreaming. Believing it's all very true when she knows it isn't. But still, at least in her sleeping, Daddy's always there, waiting for her, loving her with all his heart.

And that is all she asks for.

"All I have is a picture in my mind

How it would be

If we were together

Let's pretend that you're far away

Let's say you write to me

And you promise in your letter

That you'll come home

Come home to my heart

When you come home

We'll never be apart

If I keep dreaming of you

Star believing it's true

Soon you'll come home

Soon you'll come home

To my heart

Soon you'll come home

Home to my heart

Soon you'll come home

Home to my heart

If I believe…"
