Disclaimer: I don't own Heroes.

A/N: So this was written in English class while I was supposed to be writing a poem about Antigone. I was feeling kinda angst-y and this was what happened….

Keep in mind it's before I watched the very last episode of Heroes, so I didn't know Claire revealed herself. There's a bunch of Gretchen/Claire stuff in here too, since when I wrote this I was about halfway through season 4.

Regeneration

Undying

Destiny

"Save the cheerleader, save the world."

Everyone looks to her

Because she is never hurt

Because she lives forever

Because she is invincible

Shining halo

Face full of innocence

Bright eyes that hold something unknown

A thousand suicide attempts

A thousand sleepless nights

A thousand friendships broken

She begins to fear

But she never breaks

Not when she has to leave

Not when her life is ripped from her

Not when she must pretend

Not when her father dies

Not when her head is filled with untruths

Not when all she trusted slowly slips away

She is caught in the undertow

Suffocating

But they still can't see it

Because she will save them

Again and again and again

He comes as a nightmare

The last straw

Pain was everything

It meant she was human

It meant she was alive

It meant she could feel

But he took it away

Days are long and grim

Despite

A new friend

Her soft smile

The way she stays around

Stays close always

How the two find something more

Even though the others stare

It doesn't bother her

Life becomes better

And they leave her alone

To remember

And to cling to whatever humanity is left

Because if she can't feel pain

Soon she won't feel anything at all
