Found Within The Gate
"So this is the gate Edward spoke of…" The words came out scarcely more than a whisper, the hushed scarcely audible even to his own ears. The doors stood tall and mighty before him, striking a black fear into his heart, overshadowing all his thoughts. His mind could scarcely formulate a thought without tracing back to the menacing site before him. The thick, musty scent and feel of the air around the gateway lingered cold, like a damp cloth over everything, enveloping his mind and body with something unnatural, something he couldn't escape.
For an instant he thought he saw the faint silhouette of Edward, a distant roar of engines passing through his mind, but he shook it off, blaming it to being something illusory, a trick played on his psyche.
Looking around, he gazed at the open, wide expanse of nothing, the off-white light blindingly stretching in all directions, as far as he could see, and farther yet, he assumed. There was an almost tangible feel to the heavy air around him, as if he could not walk those distance he could see, or that he would, at the very least, never seem to escape the towering slate of the doors.
As if reading his mind, the doors creaked open, oh so slowly, a dark light leaking out of the crack as it widened, but the glow never spilled beyond the gap, always eerily punctuating the incidence of its source.
But then another presence made itself evident, a vague outline of a young man overshadowed by the immense shapes.
"Ed…ward…?" Alfons ventured cautiously, peering at the shape that resembled the one he'd lost so long ago.
A faint smile made itself known on the lips of the newcomer, the form solidifying, and reaching out, taking Alfons' hand.
"Yes, Alfons." He breathed, "We're together again."
