Prompt #403 from tamingthemuse- Zygomancy

Note: From now on most of my tamingthemuse stories will be named as the challenge.

This was Xander's first time at a demon fair. He didn't even know there were demon fairs until last week. You learned a lot dating a vampire. Spike had told him last Friday that he was taking Xander up to LA for an underground demon fair for their six months anniversary. At first Xander wasn't sure how going to a demon fair was supposed to be fun especially for a demon magnet like Xander but Spike was a vampire and he'd stop any demon that tried to lay a hand, tentacle or even tongue on him.

This fair was just like a human fair. There were games and a lot of food stands. Spike steered Xander away from the less appealing ones. They even had a petting zoo. Of course those animals were human. When Xander went to open his mouth about it Spike simply guided him away from the area and pretended he didn't see it.

"Here, pet, how about this?" Spike asked stopping at a stand.

Xander looked at it and frowned. There was a demon in the stand, a large scale on the counter. "What is it?"

"It's called zygomancy. They can tell the future by using weights on the scale," Spike explained.

"I don't think so," Xander said, he took Spike by the hand and headed to a cotton candy stand. At least Xander hoped it was cotton candy. It certainly looked like cotton candy.

Spike looked behind him at the stand. He didn't understand why Xander wasn't interested. It sounded like fun. "What's wrong, luv?"

"Nothing… I just don't like that kind of stuff," Xander said. He ordered two things of cotton candy one pink and one blue. He handed the blue one to Spike. Spike would have thrown a fit if he had to eat the pink one. He picked off a big chunk of the sticky goodness and stuffed it in his mouth. He hoped Spike wouldn't push it but it was Spike he was talking about.

"Why not? It's just a bunch of fun," Spike said. He picked at his own cotton candy. He wasn't a big sweets person but cotton candy was the exception.

Xander shook his head. "With what we do every day? I don't want to find out when we are finally not going to be enough to stop the baddie of the week. I don't want to find out that maybe what we have isn't what we're supposed to have. That this isn't real. I just want to live in the now and not worry about the future."

Spike tossed his cotton candy away and grabbed Xander. "Neither of those things is going to happen. We are better than the bad guys. The good guys always win, yeah? And you and me? This isn't some passing fancy. Not for me anyway. You're it for me. You're the only thing I want in this world. You are the reason I protect this sodding planet."

"Are… are you saying you love me?" Xander asked quietly. Neither of them had said the words yet. Xander didn't know how long to wait before saying the words. That's why he'd never said it to Cordelia.

"Yeah, I guess I am," Spike said quietly.

Xander smiled. "I love you too."

A smile spread over Spike face. He had prepared himself for Xander to not return the feelings. He pulled Xander in for a kiss. When he pulled away his licked his lips. The kiss had tasted like cotton candy. "Let's go play some games. Can't leave without some souvenirs, eh?"

Xander blinked his head all foggy from the kiss. "Yeah, games. Sounds good."

When they got back to their hotel room the car was full of toys.

The End
