My Favorite Obsession by: Lillian Behrendt
A perfect night
That's what it is
To go to a crowded old theater and yell things at a screen
Ah, but it's much more than that
To wait in anticipation for the Fox Twentieth Century Jingle
And to hear the lips sing
To do the time warp
To stuff yourself with whatever sugary thing they have
To throw and yell and laugh
But to feel sad when Frank and Columbia die
And by Superheroes you're tired
But you don't want to leave
You're groggy and hypnotized
But it's so perfect you just want to lock up the moment forever
So perfect you're afraid it will break
And you have to come back
Because there is nothing in the world like it
And if you can't go back
You try and think back
To when you were there
But the bliss, remembering the bliss of the moment
Just makes you cry
Because outside of the dark theater
People don't like you
You can't throw things at anyone
You don't know what they'll say next
If only you could live inside your safe dark place
Where the shadows of Riff Raff and Magenta flicker
Live on popcorn and just watch one movie over and over again
If you could just live that perfect moment forever
Where there's nobody whispering behind your back
Making plans without you
No teachers telling you that you're smart but you need to figure out your priorities
No parents telling you to get out more, go to the movies
They don't understand
Because why would you want to see, do anything else
You don't have friends anymore
They just think you're too weird
Watching your favorite movie in your head
You're always so sad on Saturday nights, because you'd rather be in your pitch-black sanctuary
You just wish someone would understand
That you just wanna go to the late night double feature picture show
