Waiting quietly for the elevator to reach his floor, Bucky watched the floor numbers light up.

It had been a long mission. Four weeks in Spain trying to take out a known assassin, one who nearly killed him twice. In the end, Bucky had been the victor, taking the bastard with him into a twelve foot deep pool and drowning him. (He'd gotten a pretty nasty bruise on his jaw for his troubles.)

The elevator dinged, doors sliding open. Bucky stepped out and cocked his head, squinting slightly as music wafted to his ears.

They asked me how I knew
my true love was true
I of course replied, something here inside
Cannot be denied

A frown formed on Bucky's lips as he followed the music into the living room.

They said someday you'll find
all who love are blind
when your heart's on fire, you must realize
smoke gets in your eyes

He was greeted by the sight of a rather dejected Steve seated on the couch, looking all the world like someone had just wrapped his puppy in an American flag and drop-kicked it across the whole of the U.S.

So I chaffed them and I gaily laughed
to think they could doubt my love
yet today my love has flown away
I am without my love
now laughing friends deride
tears I cannot hide,
so I smile and say
when a lovely flame dies
smoke gets in your eyes
smoke gets in your eyes
smoke gets in your ey-

Forcibly removing the record, Bucky dropped it on the nearby shelf, ignoring Steve's startled gasp.
"Bucky! When did you get here?" he demanded.

"Sometime before you started this depressing shit. Now shush. Where the hell is..." he trailed off as he rummaged through the records, letting out a triumphant shout when he found the one he had been looking for.
The record began to play:

To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
Just to see him smile, makes my life worthwhile
To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
And I do

Offering a smile, Bucky grabbed Steve's hand and pulled him close.
"C'mon doll," he murmured. "They're playing our song."

Steve rolled his eyes. "I thought you said, 'Somewhere Over the Rainbow' was our song."

"Well I changed my mind. Just shut up and dance with me, will ya?"

I'll be good to him, I'll bring love to him
Everyone says there'll come a day, when I'll walk alongside of him
Yes, yes, just to know him is to love, love, love him
And I do

Leading them carefully, Bucky tightened his grip on Steve's waist and swayed lightly as Steve hummed along with the song.

Why can't he see, how blind can he be
Someday he'll see that he was meant for me

To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
Just to see him smile, makes my life worthwhile
To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
And I do

"How was the mission?" Steve asked hesitantly after a couple of minutes passed in silence.
Bucky shrugged, thinking about the blood he had spilled, the body he had hid.
"It was fine."

To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
Just to see him smile, makes my life worthwhile
To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
And I do

Steve didn't push for more details. He merely sighed and rested his head on Bucky's shoulder as Bucky sang softly,

"To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
Just to see him smile, makes my life worthwhile
To know, know, know him is to love, love, love him
And I do."

Steve pressed his lips against Bucky's and murmured, "I do too."
