"Now, all of you have chosen your Pokemon. Since you all previously have had no experience with Pokemon, it's important you understand how battles work. Especially with Gym Leaders." Rowan explained. He and another researcher walked to the table where the trio chose their Pokemon, and picked several different ones. Heading towards the door to the lab, he motioned for them to follow, as what will happen will have to happen outside.
"Me and Harold here will show battles work. I will explain some parts, while you watch, listen, and learn." Rowan said, while sending out a small, orange, lizard Pokemon. Harold sent out a small, blue, turtle Pokemon.
"What I have is a Charmander, Harold sent out a Squirtle. Now, let's begin." He said before starting the battle.
During the tutorial, Rowan sometimes stopped to explain something, such typing of Pokemon and moves, and the number of Pokemon used in a battle. The three understood every word he said. Eventually, they got to battle Rowan in a 3 vs 1 match, which they successfully won.
"This is how battles work now. Instead of using all the Pokemon you have with you, you use the same number as the opponent. Each Pokemon used will belong to a different trainer. The first Gym Leader uses 3 Pokemon, I believe. Each of you will use one of your Pokemon against one of his Pokemon, until the Pokemon on one side all faints. " Rowan taught them beforehand. He also taught them how to catch a Pokemon.
Now, back in Route 202, the three walked back to Jubilife City, with their new Pokemon. Their Pokemon's personalities matched their own. Jimmarrow was walking backwards in front of the other two, with his hands behind his neck. His new Oshawott, named Shell, was walking the same way. Christa was looking down at the ground, as usual. She was one with strange habits. Her new Chikorita, named Leafy, was looking at the ground, also. Zenmuji, was walking and looking forward, trying not to notice Jimmarrow. Of course, he had a stern look on his face. His new Chimchar, named Flamer, was acting just like him. Now that they have their first Pokemon, they traveled towards the first badge.
