Summary: Zuko mulls over what could have been a good friendship.

Though he wouldn't admit it, he thinks that maybe he could be the Avatar's friend if they lived at a different time and met in a different place. If he didn't have an obligation to his father to capture and put an end to the Avatar, who's very existence threatened the Fire Nation Empire his father was trying to create. Or if the Fire Nation was just another peaceful nation as it had been before Aang had disappeared for 100 years.
If he really thinks about it he can see himself being pulled along by the younger boy, much like his uncle pulls him around now, onto the next adventure for them to share. Of course he would protest but it would fall on deaf ears and in the end he would be forced to go through whatever foolish scheme they younger boy had come up with for better or for worse. And then when all was said and done perhaps he would be able to look back on it and smile and maybe even laugh.
Zuko thinks it perhaps would've been nice to be Aang's friend instead of his enemy. As he stares out at the vast ocean before him from the raft he was sharing with his uncle, he wonders if maybe he still could be.
