Angst, angst, angst *swoons* Yup, I like it. Eh, I do hope you like this little song-fic.
Things were all good yesterday
And then the devil took your memory
Nagisa held Gou's hand, still hiding behind a smile like he always did. His thumb gently brushed her prominent knuckles and he talked to Gou, describing his day, telling her how magnificent Haru was at the Olympics and how the swimming club at their old school was still going on strong- even after ten years.
Gou stares at him, confused. She seems to be afraid, uncertain.
"Who are you?" Words roll off of her tongue and strike Nagisa right in the chest.
Nagisa only smiles wider, holds her hand firmer and presses a kiss to her fist. He tells her how much he loves her, how she loves him and hopes that his name will bring back her memory.
And if you fell to your death today
I hope that heaven is your resting place
I heard the doctors put your chest in pain
But then that could have been the medicine
And now you're lying in the bed again
Either way I'll cry with the rest of them
The doctor's tell Nagisa that there is not much hope for Gou, she can barely draw breath on her own and the pain she is in is too great. Their words seem cold, cruel. He doesn't accept it at first but, still, he bears it and goes to visit a temple, prays, for the first time in a long while.
Nagisa knows that Gou was not perfect, but he knows that she will end up in Eden- surrounded by all her favorite muscles, occasionally visited by her father. He wants nothing more than heaven for his girl. His happy facade falls and tears slide down his face.
Everything hurts, yet everything is numb. Nagisa doesn't quite know how to handle the weight on his heart.
Darling hold me in your arms the way you did last night
And we'll lie inside, a little while he wrote
I could look into your eyes until the sun comes up
And we're wrapped in light, in life, in love
Put your open lips on mine and slowly let them shut
For they're designed to be together oh
They're intertwined so much that no one can decipher where Nagisa's limbs begin and where Gou's end. Hands caress and grope, lips pressed together- even though they're smiling and the kiss is somewhat clumsy. Their bodies are so close that their hearts are beating in time, beating in their chests, wanting to merge into one, big, heart.
Passion slowly moves beneath their skin and they know that they belong together, that they are soulmates.
Too bad Nagisa wakes up and realizes it is all a dream.
Then the devil took your breath away
And now we're left here in the pain
Black suit, black tie standin' in the rain
And now my family is one again
Rain was pouring down, as if the skies were crying because Gou was no more. The water washed away the tears from many faces, but more followed and the cycle repeated itself. Rin wouldn't be standing if it weren't for Makoto. Nagisa is openly sobbing, practically screaming into Rei's shoulder.
Everyone shares pain, none believes that Gou is really gone. Nagisa wonders why did Gou have to go, why now when they have found each other again and fell in love? He doesn't understand why her death had to be the event to bring old friends together.
And my brother and all of my family
Rise from the seats to sing hallelujah
Everyone praises Gou but none of them know her like Nagisa did. He talks of her passions, somehow manages to joke and brings smiles on everyone's faces, talks about her big heart, her love.
Seeing them smile hurts because she'll never smile at him again.
