The New World of Lunacy

Chapter 1: Impact's Aftermath; The Boy Who Longed for Madness to Begin

Shinji's thoughts of the Third Impact welled up in his mind, forcing him to revisit every gruesome detail before his very eyes. The constant question, the haunting question "what is that you wish for," kept playing in his head as the insanity played out. In an instant, the destroyed, apocalyptic sight of the world immediately dispersed with a clear light that seemed to spread out for eternity. Rei, Asuka and Misato all stood before him now, smiling and clapping as the reality around them suddenly grew dim and dross. As the horrifying sight of Evangelion Unit 01's face growling behind the three girls, it appeared as if it were going to devour them, which forcibly awoke Shinji, who was now in a bed.

At first he was thrown off from the simple awakening from the madness, as if it were just a passing nightmare. The angels, the Evangelion, and the Third Impact…they all seemed like a horrid travesty that plagued his soul and only a terrible dream yet something more. With his eyes shooting open as if raised from the dead, Shinji stared at a familiar blank ceiling that had sheltered him for some time. With his body soaked with an incredible accumulation of sweat and his brain trying to bring him back to the world he was now laying in, Shinji finally sat up, turning to hang his legs off the side of his bed. He then stared at his hands; they were still shaking as they were before he awoke, with tears subconsciously dripping from his eyes into them as if trying to fill a fountain.

"My God…that was such a horrible nightmare…" Shinji sighed heavily as his eyes began to focus, allowing him to see the world he was so glad to be in once again. Shaking the drowsy out of his face, he then felt the cool, carpeting beneath his toes, tickling them a slight bit as he reached his arms to the sky in a long, much needed stretch. Things seemed normal enough as he exited his room with only a few strange things that stuck out; the main room of Misato's apartment was completely spotless, as if every nook and cranny had a tooth pick taken to it before wiping it clean.

There were no smells of breakfast or any other foods being cooked, which meant that Misato and Asuka had already left to go eat, or at least that's what it would normally mean. It was a rare occasion that they would go out to eat, but normally they would wake him up as well to go with them. He turned his head towards the TV when sounds began to come through it. It seemed to be nothing special; it was a new show which Misato put on from time to time when she would wake for work. Suddenly, Shinji's body went completely stiff as a pale pair of arms wrapped around his waist with a soft, pleasant voice humming in his ear.

"Good morning, Ikari," the sweet voice rang, immediately being followed by a gentle kiss on his cheek. Shinji flinched in a fright, his brain frantically running around, trying to match the voice with a face.

"A-Ayanami?!" Shinji stuttered, trying to calm is rather confused frame that tried to run away. A soft, affectionate giggle drilled into his ear as she lovingly nuzzled his cheek where the kiss had been planted.

"You sound surprised…were you expecting someone else…?" Rei whispered, her tone being unnecessarily seductive, which caused him to squirm within her grasp. She gave his waist a loving squeeze, the feeling of her chest now being squished against his upper back. It wasn't until he felt her chest against him did he come to an awkward realization. It was the feeling of a towel that pushed against him, which could only mean Rei had just removed herself from the shower room. Shinji's body tensed up again from the realization, feeling Rei's soaked towel crawl down his back, pushing itself against his ankles as it finished its fall.

"Where's Misato and Asuka, Ayanami?" Shinji did his best to keep his cool by changing the subject. It's not that he disliked Rei rubbing her naked body into his back; it's about the fact of why she was even there to begin with that confused him. Rei sighed, resting her forehead against the back of his neck. He felt the strange sensation of tears caressing the back of his neck before gliding down into his shirt. Rei's grasp around Shinji grew tighter, as if she were in fear. Shinji couldn't help but to feel bad by how she was reacting but he didn't know what the heck he had done to deserve it.

"Do…I not…make you happy Ikari?" Rei said, resting her face against him, soaking his shirt from the collar down. Shinji let out a stressful sigh, placing his hands overtop of Rei's, which were now quivering against him.

"What is going on here?!" Shinji thought to himself. He was never good at figuring out confusing situations so right now was everything that he hated when it came to comprehension. Shinji's body was hit with a wave of warmth as he felt Rei's pale, dainty hand reaching into his boxers, gently caressing the side of his member. Shinji flinched then moved her hand away, turning around to face her as if he had just been touched by a ghost. Rei's ruby red eyes were shimmering with tears with her face slowly being covered by them as if she had just stepped out of the rain. With the feeling of an unnecessary guilt overtaking him, he decided it was just best to go with the flow and figure it out from there. Shinji walked forward and pulled her into his arms, causing her to gasp in surprise.

"O-Of course you make me happy Rei; I was just wondering if you knew where they were…" Shinji said, gently stroking her hair with his fingers. He remembered a scenario like this playing out in his head once a long time ago when he had only been part of NERV for only a month. It was like a strange sense of déjà vu without the factor of it even coming close to happening before.

"Ikari, why would you be looking for them? That's why it hurt for you to ask…it's as if you long for them still…even after what they did to you…" Rei pouted, sniffling and wiping her eyes. At this point Shinji realized that there was something incredibly wrong here; it was if he was still in a dream the way it was all playing out. Its dramatics were heavily played, leaving him as the only person unaware to the world around them. That's when he noticed another unrealistic trait about the room. He noticed that in every picture that was in any kind of frame, it was only of him and/or Rei. It was if Asuka and Misato were completely erased from existence the more he looked around the room in a panic.

"What did…they do to me, Ayanami?" Shinji hesitated to ask seeing how Rei acted the first time he asked a question regarding them. Rei shook her head and began wiping out her tears, finally pulling it together, which was as good of a reaction as Shinji could even hope for.

"I'm surprised that you don't remember... It was fairly traumatizing what they did to you…if you have honestly forgotten Ikari, I'm not sure it would be good to tell you…" Rei hesitated as she slid her thumb nail between her lips. It was if he awakened from a trance and that he'd been in this strange situation all along.

"Please. Tell me," Shinji's voice grew confidence, causing Rei to return her eyes to him as she removed her thumb from her mouth. She then averted her eyes to the floor as anger filled in her expression.

"They used you then abandoned you Ikari. The way you explained it to me was that they grew angry with you over something awful that you had done, you didn't explain to me what it was, but it couldn't have been bad enough for what they did. You told me that over the period of two weeks they did nothing but tie you up and abuse you, occasionally having their way with you when they had the itch…you clung to them with all of your heart contrary to the awful things they had done; your fear of abandonment was so strong that you subjected yourself into becoming nothing more than their slave. I thought that if I took you in, and became your lover that you could forget about all the atrocities they put you through. I-I've always loved you Ikari…s-so I couldn't bear to see you like that…" Rei began to gasp and tear up once more as Shinji stared at her in horror.

His body became pale with cold sweats soaking him and his heart stopped, feeling as if it were torn out from his chest and crushed until its beating stopped permanently. His eyes stared at her as if catatonic, the chilling terror that was spread across his face was if he had just witnessed a gruesome murder. It all became too much to handle, causing Shinji to fall to the floor, his back now leaning against the couch that had been moved into the center of the room. He held his head and began shaking it furiously as he trembled like a leaf in a hurricane.

"No! That can't be! Not the Misato and Asuka I know! They would never do that!" Shinji began yelling, putting Rei into a state of utter distress. She stared at him with her wide sobbing gaze as he suddenly went berserk in front of her very eyes. She immediately moved down to him, holding his head into her chest forcefully as he began to cry and thrash uncontrollably. The memory that he didn't know existed suddenly came rushing back to him, as if he were struck by a bolt of lightning. Rei put all of her strength into trying to calm him down, holding as tight as humanly possible to subdue his shattered soul.

"Shh…its OK Ikari…this is why I didn't want to tell you…every time it is brought up your reaction is always the same. But its going to be OK Ikari…I am here with you now…you will never have to worry about those two ever again…" Rei whispered, slowly rocking Shinji in her arms.

He couldn't help but to stare at the floor as if there were a screw loose in his mind. The vision of living with the two of them in harmony, the old Asuka and Misato that were his family, flashed before his eyes as if they were being flushed down the drain, with only his new memories haunting him. Shinji's eyes were captured by Rei's as she tilted his face up by his chin to gaze upon her. A strange, unnerving smile formed across her lips as she leaned forward, lovingly pressing her lips to Shinji's without hesitation. Tears rolled out from Shinji's eyes as he stared at Rei, her loving gesture now being the only thing that grounded his sanity to this new life as he sat in her arms. Rei couldn't help but to giggle at Shinji's helplessness as he took the lead, slowly moving her to floor before hovering overtop of her.

"Can…you make me forget…Ayanami?" Shinji asked hopelessly, trying to look for any salvation that he could find to run from the nightmare that had overtaken him. She sprawled her body out, relaxing her naked frame on the floor before Shinji's eyes. Rei expressed a warm, loving smile, holding her arms open as a welcome mat for his embrace. As Shinji leaned down to kiss her lovingly, Rei's eyes tilted to the side of the room, where a pair of hands were desperately trying to pry open a locked door at its bottom. A twisted smile spread across her face as she wrapped her arms behind Shinji's neck, securing his heart and soul in her hands as they passionately locked lips with one another.

"Don't worry my Ikari…it will be as if they never existed…as if they never tried to help you…as if they never tried to hold you…as if they never cried for your help to save them…" Rei said to herself, wrapping her legs around Shinji as they engaged in aggressive carnal activities.
