In an assignment for the Ministry of Magic, he went on the muggle 'internet' (A system that allows them to communicate quickly through electricity) and, finding his own name, discovered a series of fiction based on him. The document was so horribly written, and described him in such a despicable fashion, that he went into a rage. He tracked down each and every author who had depicted him so, and turned them into rats. He almost spent ten years in Azkaban, but was acquitted when the defense read a few of the atrocious documents aloud, as evidence.
