Absence-A Monsters Inc. Fanfic
Chapter 1
Sitting in his car, parked on the side of the street, drumming his fingers on the steering wheel. Mike Wazowski was feeling a little nervous. He looked up out of his car window and at the red brick building on his right. It was five stories tall and looked like any other apartment complex in Monstropolis, yet it wasn't the building that was making him feel so hesitant at first to enter it.
Mike closed his eye, took a deep breath, muttered something that sounded like, "Just go in, you're making a big deal out of nothing. Everything's going to be fine," and then got out of the car. After locking it and turning towards the building, he took another deep breath and walked inside. There was a small lobby-like room inside, neat and clean. At the end of the room was a counter and behind it was a monster Mike figured to be the landlord. He was an orange monster with six tentacle arms and slug-like eyes. When this monster looked up at Mike, he saw that the tentacle monster's eyes were brown. And when the tentacle monster opened his mouth to speak, he spoke in a dry sounding voice. "Yes, may I help you with something?"
Mike nodded and came over to the counter. "Um, yes, I'm here to see someone. Someone who lives in this building." He told the landlord the name of one of the tenants here and the landlord nodded when Mike asked him if he had the number of the apartment right. "That's right, apartment 2A. Second floor. When you get to the second floor, take a right and head down several doors and you'll see it on the right. You can't miss it."
"Thank you, sir." Mike gave him a small smile and nod before going up the stairs on his left. But Mike had known all long where the apartment was, the monster who lived there had told him it. He was just delaying his inevitable encounter with the tenant. He sighed to himself, wondering why he had to feel so nervous about this.
He arrived on the second floor and following the landlord's instructions took a right and walked down the hall. Apartment doors passed by him as he headed down the hall. He saw them and thought about the monsters who lived there, the lives they lived there. He wondered what they were like. This thought seemed so trivial to him the past, why was it so interesting how?
Finally he found the door he was looking for, the door to apartment 2A. Mike stood before it and raised his right hand before it stopped just a few inches from the door. He stood for what felt like forever. Then a thought occurred to him. He could put his hand down and just walk away, walk down the stairs, walk out of the building, get back into his car, and drive away. Pretend like this and the events that preceded it had never happened. But another thought came to the cyclops. No, that would be pointless. Even if the monster who lived here wouldn't see Mike driving by out through the window, this monster and Mike would inevitably see each other again.
Mike closed his eye and took a third deep breath. Well, here goes nothing. He thought. He brought his hand to the door and knocked a few times. He waited in what felt like another eternity, wondering if the monster who lived here was home right now. Then a voice called out. "Coming!"
Mike wondered if he could be seen through the peephole, being the small monster he was. He waited seconds before the door opened and the other monster was standing in the doorway. The monster saw him and no facial expression could be seen. Then the other monster gave a little shy smile. "Hello, Mike Wazowski." This monsters voice and appearance hadn't changed.
Mike felt weird about all this, but he gave a little shy smile back and spoke back.
"Hello, Randall Boggs."
Happy Halloween everyone, let me know what you think.
