Salvation
"It's OK", whispers the voice. "Everything' s OK".
Mark's got no powers left anymore, he only clenches his fingers, clinging like grim death to the stranger's cloak. To snatch a chance, when there's no hope and however somebody still comes for him. Just to slip away or to kill, he feels no difference. But there's no chain, he's free. He feels that somebody is trying to pull him on his feet, but vainly. It's strange, he thought his body is lighter than the air.
"Can't lift you", the stranger's voice is sincerely pitiful."You should try to do it yourself".
Hoffman opens his eyes and stares at his savior with a dulled recognition. What in the world are you doing here, - he wants to ask, - you've thrown the saw away, why the hell are you back?
Mark cannot walk, he crawls and crawls - to Gordon's feet making him move backwards. Lawrence answers his unasked question.
"I know now, who'd helped Adam. This man doesn't deserve to die, even if he did this only for his own profit. Even if this man is you."
Hoffman stands still, they look at each other for what seems like an eternity. Mark thinks that maybe Gordon is insane. And Gordon smiles thinking that love should change something in one's life.
This time he leaves the door wide open.
