Blood Red Sky

The ground shook with force as the Wing Zero landed a few miles away from the former battle grounds now a mobile doll graveyard. The hatch opened and the Perfect Soldier, Heero Yuy stepped onto the lowring cable and rode down to the soft grass below.

The Deathscythe landed beside the Wing Zero a few seconds after, and Duo Maxwell rode down and stepped onto the fresh grass beside Heero.

"Another battle won ne, Heero?" Duo asked, grinning and crossing his arms over his chest.

"Hai. Mission completed." Heero simply answered in his usual monotone voice.

"We'll make camp here for now until the next mission comes."

Duo just sighed and followed Heero as he walked into the woods to gather firewood. He noticed how Heero's pace was always stiff and accurate in timing and he blinked.

//Doesn't he ever feel for the thousands he kills everyday?// he wondered to himself as he picked up stray pieces of dry wood as the two wandered farther into the forest. He failed to notice the single tear that slid down that stone cold face.

Later that evening, when dark had settled like a thick mist over the area, Duo was inside Deathscythe, running a status check. He sighed and cracked his neck once he had finished and stepped out onto the open hatch.

"Heero? Where'd he go?"

Meanwhile, Heero sat atop a large boulder set into the ground. He faced the former battle site, typing away on his laptop. The eerie green glow of the screen illuminated his face, making him seem unreal.

A small wind blew past, ruffling Heero's shaggy bangs causing him to glance upward into the night sky, curiously. The darkness was clouded with a red glow, a result of the fire that had errupted in the battle but had died away hours ago.

He glanced back down to the grassy area below him to see thousands maybe millions of mobile doll parts scattered around the grass like skeletons, human blood splattered across some of those parts. Heero couldv'e sworn he saw human body parts sticking out of the crevices of the melted and charred mobile doll parts.

"All those I killed...."

Heero looked down at his laptop and blinked once he saw small droplets of water on the usually pristine keys. A shaky hand reached up and touched the tears that tracked down his cheeks.

"These are my tears.....I'm crying..."

Suddenly a loud roar shook the ground causing the laptop to slip from Heero's lap and crash into the ground, it breaking into thousands of tiny pieces. He didn't even notice it as a fleet of mobile dolls flew overhead, causing the ground to shake even more. Cobalt blue eyes watched them fly through across the night sky as he slowly stood up on the boulder.

The boulder was situated on the edge of a high cliff that looked out to the ruins of the battle site. Heero stepped down from the boulder and slowly but steadily spread his arms out as if he were embracing death.

The menacing, blood red sky was the last thing he saw before he plummeted to his death.
