A family of five walked out onto platform 9 and ¾. Everyone smiled to please or cringed away. Cygnus and Druella Black were there with their three daughters Bellatrix, Narcissa and Andromeda.
Twelve year old Narcissa ran ahead to greet her friends. Fourteen year old Bellatrix turned to their littlest sister.
"You had better be in Slytherin," she hissed then turned and marched jauntily away. Everyone knew Andy was the most sensitive when it came to prejudices.
After sitting with her sister, Bella, and her horrid "friends", Andy wandered into the Great Hall from the boats. "Ader, Louis" became a Gryffindor and "Avery, Blanca" was made a Hufflepuff. After "Barns, Derrick" was made a Hufflepuff too, Professor Minerva McGonagall called, "Black, Andromeda!"
There was an outbreak of jarring from the Gryffindors; they knew the Blacks' reputation.
Andy slowly made her way to the front and shakily put on the hat. It fell right over her eyes.
"Hmm… Difficult. Very difficult. You hate your family name. And you don't judge as much as your sisters… Yes, yes, very tricky indeed. Oho, very brave, too. Not Slytherin. Well, good luck because it had better be… GRYFFINDOR!"
Silence. That's all Andy heard . She pulled off the hat and glanced at her sisters. Bella looked murderous and Cissy looked as though her favorite pet had just been killed. She looked at the teachers. Albus Dumbledore's eyes were twinkling. Minerva was clutching her chest and blinking rather fast as though in shock. Andy couldn't really blame her. Sure, she had fantasized about what it would be like to be in Gryffindor but she had never actually thought it possible.
Then, the Gryffindors were cheering loudly, louder than with Louis Ader and they were all standing up. Andy nervously walked towards them and sat down next to a blonde girl with a cynical expression.
"Hi," she said. "I'm Annette Diggle, a Prefect." Andy smiled.
As time wore on, Andy became accustomed to being the disgrace of the family. She's okay with that because she long ago accepted the fact that her family hated her. She hated them too.
