'Balderdash!' interjected a displeased elderly fellow of the arcane arts. 'The work of my magical research, so near to fruition, and blocked by a single sentence in the ancient tongue.' If Gelt happened to have one of our world nearby, he might have learned that the final sentence needed to complete his book actually read:
'Halfsmile does not own Riviera: The Promised Land.'
'I never miss! Stardust!'
'My resolve shall prevail! Cadenza!'
'This is the will of the gods! Disaresta!'
Arrows, shot as if a shooting star from Diana's Bow and a pair of blisteringly powerful attacks aimed at its weak element finally brought the Grim Reaper to a realization. 'Life. You five beings positively glow with life. That's the one thing I can't stand.' With that, the crimson scythe wielder re-entered the void.
'Yipee!' exulted Lina. 'Lina and friends just sealed the final accursed.'
Serene gave the archer a dry look. '"Lina and friends?"' What makes you the ringleader?'
'It's finally over,' said the wingless angel with an exhausted sigh.
Cierra didn't say anything but just led everyone in a big group hug.
'Let's go home,' said Fia with a happy giggle.
A day later, Ein was enjoying repose in a grove of that name when a green-eyed cat-like creature thought at him. Hey, Sleeper.
He sat up and raised an eyebrow. Yeah, Rose?
Rose shifted her tail in the curve of a question mark. Ever wonder what happened to Ledah? When you disappeared back at the exit of Heaven's Gate, Ledah and I split up pretty quickly. He didn't think it was worth the time or effort to track you down, as Hector had given up on you.
Ein picked up a random applecot lying on the grove's ground, split it in two, and offered Rose half. I suppose Ledah's perfectly following orders, as usual. What was the last order Hector gave him?
To actuate the Retribution.
Ein stopped in mid-bite. What's that?
Rose shrugged with her wings as a displeased look crossed her face. It sure doesn't sound good.
Ein paused thoughtfully, snack forgotten. Ursula said that Asgard had foolishly chosen destruction as the answer to prevent Riviera from turning into another Utgard, but our sealing of the accursed was a wiser answer.
Does Hector know the accursed have been sealed? queried Rose.
We have no way of contacting him outside Asgard, reminded Ein, which means,
Hand joined paw as they exclaimed together. Ledah may still be on his way to destroy Riviera!
Where is he and how is he going to go about doing it?
I'd rather not know.
Do you think there's a way we could reach the officials of Asgard before Ledah strikes the fatal blow?
If anyone has the ability to teleport us home quickly enough, it's Ursula.
I suppose we could ask the village Elder how to contact her?
So that was how angel and cat-like friend returned to Asgard, explained to the Magi how Riviera had itself prevented the possibility of Utgard reawakening, and so rendered the Retribution unnecessary. With his hidden evil plans, Hector wasn't particularly pleased, but the six other Magi overruled him. Grim Angel Ledah avoided a rather grim situation. The World Tree with its endangered species of inhabitants remained undisturbed, to everyone's decided happiness. Peace rested on the realm of the angels and the promised land.
